From the manufacturer
There are many different types of ramps. The most common designs are bi-fold, tri-fold and free-standing. Ramps can also have different surface materials such as grip tape (with or without reflective markings) or carpet.
Why choose a free-standing?
Free-standing ramps do not need to be attached to a vehicle and are an excellent choice for large dogs as they can support extra weight without excess wobbling or bending.
Why choose a carpeted ramp?
Carpeting is great choice for pets with long nails, providing them with an extra gripping surface. It is gentle on your pet's paws as well as the inside of your vehicle when the ramp is being stored. The carpet tread is removable and washable for easy cleaning.
Why choose a reflective ramp?
Reflective ramps provide extra safety when loading and unloading your pet. The high contrast markings also aid in guiding your pet up and down the ramp.

The Pet Gear Travel Lite Bi-Fold Pet Ramp allows your pet easy access into your vehicle or other hard to reach places. The removable carpet tread is machine washable. The bottom of the ramp has rubber grippers to maintain its position. This lightweight ramp folds in half and has a built in carry handle for easy transport and storage. Please note that this ramp is not suitable for rear of vehicle loading as the angle of the ramp will be too steep for the pet to go up the ramp. This ramp is recommended for vans and lower height vehicles only. Ensure that the width of the ramp will work with your car door opening before purchasing. Pet Gear items that are recommended for rear-vehicle loading are: TL9166BB, TL9371CH, TL9955CH and PG9300DR.

The ramp was shipped in its original box and thankfully, undamaged. I'm a 5-ft 108-lb woman and don't find it annoyingly heavy and bulky. (Of course I'd prefer a ramp that weighs no more than 5 lbs, 18" wide, and 80" long and yet very durable and thin but then maybe it will cost $500!) The actual width covered by the green turf is 12.5". I had my 5-year-old 75-lb Golden Retriever walk across the ramp several times while it was flat on the floor, then I put one end on the couch. As long as the treats kept coming, he was chill. Next I propped the ramp on the edge of the cargo floor of our Acura SUV which is about 28.5" from the ground. After much coaxing and treats, my dog was able to go up and down the ramp. This is our 2nd day with the ramp and we've used it 4x already. I still have to hold on to his collar to make him do a bit of a running start to go up the ramp. Going down is a breeze for him. I wish that I'd bought a ramp when he was still a puppy.
I have an old, very heavy and very sturdy beige ramp that folds in half and locks. It is the strongest of the ramps I have used, but it is also very heavy and I have gotten my fingers pinched many times. It is made by Petstep. It is not PetSTEP Folding Pet Ramp, Khaki, but is probably an older model. I also bought Solvit 62337 Deluxe Telescoping Pet Ramp last winter. It has a sandpaper-like surface which scratches me and parts broke off after just a few uses. It is light and easy to move in and out of the car, although I tend to sand my hands when I use it.
This one has a surface that looks like astroturf and my dog thinks it is just fine to walk on. It does not have a carrying handle, which I miss. Handles help when putting the ramp in my car and also pulling it out of the car for use. It is kind of clumsy to unfold. It also doesn't lock open, like my Petstep. It has a flimsy plastic latch to hold it closed. It is the only ramp I have used that has a strap to attach it to the latch on my SUV. I used it just to test it. I am glad because my dog knocked the ramp and he could have gotten hurt if it wasn't attached. The strap does not hold it tight to the car, but it did keep the ramp from falling off the car.
I learned with my first ramp to train my dogs to use it when they are puppies. Older dogs just don't seem to like to run up a narrow ramp as much. My current Newf insists on using a ramp and won't even jump in the back of my car. It is a pain, but I don't want him to hurt his joints, so I haul the ramp out.
As you can see from the video, although the ramp is rated for 200 pounds, my 150 pound dog makes it bounce a little. It still seems stable, maybe a little more so than the Solvit but not like the non-flexing Petstep (again my model is old and the new ones may flex).
I like this ramp and it is the one I am keeping in my car. The extra wide one might have been better. Even when a dog is not extra wide, skittish dogs are more comfortable and all dogs are less likely to run off the edge.
