From the manufacturer
There are many different types of ramps. The most common designs are bi-fold, tri-fold and free-standing. Ramps can also have different surface materials such as grip tape (with or without reflective markings) or carpet.
Why choose a free-standing?
Free-standing ramps do not need to be attached to a vehicle and are an excellent choice for large dogs as they can support extra weight without excess wobbling or bending.
Why choose a carpeted ramp?
Carpeting is great choice for pets with long nails, providing them with an extra gripping surface. It is gentle on your pet's paws as well as the inside of your vehicle when the ramp is being stored. The carpet tread is removable and washable for easy cleaning.
Why choose a reflective ramp?
Reflective ramps provide extra safety when loading and unloading your pet. The high contrast markings also aid in guiding your pet up and down the ramp.

The Tri-Fold ramp handles Frankie's 105 pounds and my occasional 130 when I need to put a food, leg or self on the ramp to assist Frankie. He has scratched up the sand-paper-like attached surface for grip but I expected that.
Keeping the ramp(s) steady is the biggest challenge. I use the provided safety tether attachment at the top to keep the ramp from sliding away from the car. The second photo shows the wood frame I built for the bottom to keep the two ramps from slipping around on the ground. The frame holds everything safely in place.
It isn't simple getting Frankie in and out of the car but at least with the Petgear ramps he can get in and out safely without me having to pick him up, and we are back on the road again! .
