Mike is a sixth grade boy who has a crush on Nic (Nicole) but as far as he knows, she doesn't realize he exists. When she barges into his family's pet shop his luck is about to change. Nic's dog is missing and she needs help finding her beloved pooch. So Mike, his sister and their respective best friends team up to solve the mystery.
A light-hearted story but some great, real life moral and reasoning skill lessons. It is well thought out and balanced to enjoy and learn from. It is also just the first story for the series. A good beginning. My biggest qualm was it was just too short. Its good for the 7-8 year old, but the concept better fits the 9-10 year old but it is a bit too short and simplistic for the age group overall. Still, it is an enjoyable, quick read. A read in one session type of book. 3.5 stars

They help each other and their new friend and realize the importance of listening and supporting others. The Pet Shop Society is formed by all five of them and this is just the beginning of their adventures.
I enjoyed the relaxed tone and language of the book, very suitable for our young readers since it mimics their own. it is a simple, fun story for young readers and the twists and surprises keep it peppy and fun as they go along to solve the puzzle of the missing dog.
The twin brother and sister of Mike and Maddie learn that arguing all the time is not the best approach to sort things and start to have a better understanding and respect for each other.
Making new friends and a brand new detective agency to solve cases involving pets, this book teaches and is a fun read as well. Both boys and girls can identify with the characters and I found Mike so endearing; he reminded me of my son, so naughty and full of ideas.
This is a witty, humorous story that keeps the pages turning, looking forward to new adventures with The Pet Shop Society!

Mike and his twin sister Maddie couldn't be more different. Mike loves sports and Maddie loves books, but when the new girl's dog winds up missing they put their differences aside to help. Nic is frantic when she realizes her dog, Baxter, isn't in the yard where he's supposed to be. She stops by Mike and Maddie's mom's pet shop to see if they've seen Baxter. Mike has had a crush on Nic since the first time he saw her and knows this is his chance to get Nic to notice him. Mike springs into action and with the help of his sister and their friends Bree and Tyler they begin tracking Baxter. The group becomes fast friends and also discover they are great at solving mysteries.
Mike and the Dog-Gone Labradoodle is a wonderfully written early chapter book that's well organized and highly captivating. The simple text and easy to follow plot make it a perfect tale for emerging readers, yet can still be read aloud to younger ones. Mysteries were always a favorite among my children as they began to read stories other than picture books and Mike and the Dog-Gone Labradoodle is sure to be a fast favorite among readers. I would recommend teachers add this book to their classroom libraries too. It's an all around enjoyable read.
