I bought two of these for my dogs for Christmas. They went bonkers for them and at first I thought I found the perfect toy, boy was I wrong. The concept for this toy is fantastic and somewhere between idea and reality something went askew. The middle section consisting of the the bristles is dangerous. Not even a day into chewing it was splitting apart. My girl got her lip trapped. I limited usuage time. A couple days into use the bristles were falling out and being ingested. My boy vomited pieces of the middle section along with bristles. I took the toys away. They were so sad, they really loved these bones, even if they hurt them. My boy was even forming calluses on the side of his lips! I FIGURED OUT A SOLUTION! I bought another Busy Bone, (what!!!) and I used the purple rubber sections to replace the bristle section in each of their bones. So far this is working almost brilliantly. The purple section is not as wide as the bristle section was, so the dogs are able to chew and work the rawhide much faster, but I feel better knowing they're safer and they're happy because they get to chew the bones. I'm going to write Pet Safe, as I believe any concerned consumer should do. They can easily tweek the product so it's safer for all the fur babies of the world.

Please be aware of the dangers of this product. My daughter's beautiful little French Bulldog just had emergency surgery because of pieces of the Busy Buddy Bristle Bone found in his intestines and stomach. No telling how long they had been there. Her dog was having diarrhea, throwing up and finally stopped eating. She took him to the emergency vet and they recommend surgery immediatly because of the severe inflamation and some sort of blockage. They were afraid there could be a puncture of his intestine at any time.
They found 5 pieces of her dog's favorite chew toy, easily identified as part of a Busy Buddy Bristle Bone in his intestine and stomach. The good news is her dog is recovering nicely but the bad news is the surgery and 4 days stay is costing her %7,000.
Do you want to have this same experience???? Think about before you buy this product.

I purchased this "Busy Buddy Bristle Bone Dog Toy" in size medium for my 6 month old German Shepherd puppy. The puppy really went to town trying to get at the rawhide. After about one week, I noticed, while replacing rawhide, many of the tooth brush bristles were disappearing. This made me think: "Where are they going?" In my dog's body - of course. So far, he doesn't seem to be having any digestive problems, but those bristles are really thick and hard, and I can only imagine what they might do a puppy's digestive tract. I imagine big problems ahead for the makers of this toy and the poor animals that are having to digest these tough bristles. I have saved the center sections with all the missing bristles as evidence of the problem and am willing to share it with any concerned party.

My Berner adores the Busy Buddy Bouncy Ball, but the gnawhide treats are easily devoured within 10 minutes. The Busy Buddy Bristle Bone is just as tasty, but the treats take much longer to get to due the dental bristles and rubber nodules that surround it. He's been chewing on it for over a half hour since I opened up the package and a good portion of the treats remain.

I purchased this toy in an attempt to get my collie's teeth clean rather than having her put under for a cleaning. She used this toy many times with no issues to my knowledge. She did get the pieces unscrewed once, but since she never had it out of my supervision, I put it right back together and it did not cause a problem. It did work wonderfully. Her teeth were so white and her gums were so healthy.
However, I then gave it to my other girl. Despite me keeping an eye on her, she suddenly had the thing apart and the pieces holding the bristles were breaking apart. After a careful count, I discovered there were missing bristles. So, I induced vomiting and she had ingested over 20 bristles. She has had no ill effects so far (hoping none made it into her intestinal tract). I was extremely disappointed because this toy works really well for teeth cleaning, but it's not worth the risk!

When I bought the bristle bone I thought the high price was easy to justify. Brushing my dogs teeth while keeping him active and entertained sounded like a great thing. The pieces unscrew so you can reload the rawhide rings. My medium sized dog found it very easy to take it apart, and I found the pieces scattered while he chewed on it under my desk. It happened so quickly that when I discovered it, he had already started to destroy one of the purple rubber rings. I also bought the bouncy bone, and I wanted to prevent the disassembly trick, so I screwed the pieces together more tightly. Unfortunately the weak nylon piece broke off when I did that. So there's about $20 down the drain. Maybe I should have stuck to Nylabones.

I have a golden retriever who chews and eats about anything she can. My struggle to find a chew toy she couldn't destroy in five mintues was ongoing. This is one of the better "chewies" that I have found. It has been a couple weeks now and it is still surviving! I would recommend this for a dog who loves to chew.
