About this item
- VET RECOMMENDED AND TRAINER DESIGNED: This headcollar instinctively redirects your dog’s tendency to pull by placing gentle pressure on pain-free points and eliminating pressure on his throat
- TEACHES BETTER LEASH MANNERS: Gently and safely helps you control unwanted leash behaviors like pulling, lunging and jumping for even the most determined pullers
- NO MORE COUGHING AND CHOKING: A padded neoprene nose loop puts pressure on the back of the neck instead of your dog’s throat, which prevents choking and gagging
- ALLOWS FULL RANGE OF MOTION: Take greater control during your neighborhood strolls while still allowing your dog to bark, eat, drink and play fetch
- EASY TO FIT: Use the adjustable nose loop and quick-snap neck strap to properly fit the headcollar on your furry friend in minutes

How To Fit The Gentle Leader Headcollar
|
|
|
|
---|---|---|---|
Hold the nose loop openUse a treat to encourage your dog to fit their snout through the nose loop. |
Fit neck strap and adjust nose loopSnap the neck strap at the highest point on your dog's neck and slide the nose loop's clamp up or down to adjust. |
Check fittingTest the nose loop by pulling it forward. It should touch the beginning of the fleshy part of the nose without being so loose that it completely comes off the snout. |
No-pull solution with full range of motionWhen properly fitted, the headcollar will display a "V" shape when viewed from the side. |

Headcollar Acclimation Tips
- Offer treats when placing on your dog
- Keep training sessions short, offering treats and praise often
- Have your dog wear the headcollar during mealtimes

The best no-pull solution depends on you and your dog. Our Deluxe Easy Walk Harness has reflective accents for night walks, while the seatbelt loop on the 3 in 1 harness is great for car rides. Alternatively, the Gentle Leader Headcollar was created by a veterinary behaviorist and is simple to put on. |
Before you return your harness, contact our Customer Care team to hear about replacement options. |
Our U.S.-based Customer Care team is happy to assist with providing chewed harness replacements for a discounted fee. |
Since no-pull solutions are designed as a training tool, we recommend using a 4- to 6-foot leash for walks instead of retractable ones. |

Last week, I got it out again, put it on her, gave her a treat, and immediately took her outside for a walk. It worked! This time she accepted it. Other than a moment here and there, she is doing great with this and no more pulling. It's like walking a completely different dog.
I should add, that I had skipped her walk for almost two weeks (a very long time for her). She had gotten to the point that her front-clip harness wasn't a deterrent anymore, so I thought I'd just take a break. After not going for her daily outings for so long, she was more than happy to mostly ignore the gentle leader and focus on smelling all the great things she'd been missing out on.
Now we are back to our daily walks. The biggest difference being that I am having fun on the walk too, now that I don't have to spend so much energy working on her behavior. I do still put a harness on her in case I need to grab it for additional control (which is rare) but I only attach the leash to the head lead. I have a leash with a lighter clip on it for that. The leash clip that attaches to the harness is much thicker and heavier.
All I can say is .... Gentle Leader for the win-win!!
SAFETY TIP UPDATE: A couple times, I've had near-escape incidences, both indoors at the vets office thankfully. Once, the leash somehow became unclipped and another, she pulled the lead off her face. Now, to ensure a double-attachment, I put the leader on as usual, then I use a carabiner to secure the base of the leash clip to the loop in her collar. This way, should she get the leader off again or the leash become unclipped, the leash will still be connected to her collar. (see attached photo showing left/right side comparisons showing both parts of what I've described)
I find that this setup does not cause any issues while walking nor stop the effectiveness of the leader.

However, the neck collar does need a keeper to tidy up the excess length. My dog is not fully grown so I do not want to cut off the excess but having it hanging down is untidy and is a distraction for my dog. With the wet and muddy walks we have been having to take of late it will also get filthy. There is definitely room for improvement.
