Top Customer Reviews
Unlike the United States there are absolutely no quality control and safety regulations when it comes to products meant for pets. What is more - the manufacturer is New Helcon which is the number one supplier of the most notorious and largest killer of dogs and cats the world has known via their products - The Hartz Mountain Corporation.
Rawhide in general is a slippery slope. Certified Organic rawhide is dried naturally and considered safe. However most rawhide is cured - and it's cured with a myriad of toxic chemicals including formaldehyde.
Based on this information, and the current FDA ban on chicken products from China, we'll use our Busy Bones without the rawhide and be returning the two packages we bought.
Pet toy manufacturers need to be more aware of how educated pet owners have become regarding the potential risk products from China pose to their beloved pets. No toy or treat is worth losing your dog over or even taking the chance.
There's no shortage of quality toys, treats and foods made here in the USA from locally sourced ingredients - these companies deserve our collective support.
Update: I called other rawhide companies and you really have to call each one to find out where they get their materials. SADLY, some of their products are made from materials coming from China, too. They, also, swear it's safe. We know it's NOT.
I dehydrate liver and chicken to make HEALTHY treats for my dog, family dogs and friends' dogs all the time. I decided to cut the liver to fit the bristle bone, then dehydrate it, but cutting it to shape was a pain! I also tried putting doggie toothpaste on it, but that didn't work at all.
Then it hit me! I just cut the beef liver into thin strips and turn them to form a circle, letting the ends overlap. I then put them in my dehydrator with my other treats! SUCCESS! They fit the toy beautifully and my dog liked it even better than before! If you follow my lead, don't overdo with the liver. It is GOOD for the dog as long as you DON'T give him or her too much.
I'm going to try another remedy. I bought a Pet Treat Maker and found that you can use hamburger, or any ground meat, to make jerky for dogs. I'm now looking for a mini donut or bunt pan. If we can find one that is 2" in diameter, it might just be perfect for our needs! If I find one, I'll TRY to repost!Read more ›
I then had an "aha" moment to make my own healthy refills (because the treat toy itself is a good design) - cut sweet potatoes and butternut squash into slices with a mandolin and use a tiny circle cookie cutter (link below) to punch a hole in the center of each slice and then dehydrate. I like to dehydrate until they are soft, not "chip" hard. I seal them up in a ziplock and refrigerate.
I'm going to try apples and even chicken and beef. If anyone tries to dehydrate other treats in this way, please post a comment and let me know how it works!

These disks go in our busy buddy toys- make sure to pay attention to the packaging, as these are compatible with size XS in some toys but S in others. Our dogs love these. Read morePublished 3 days ago by anne
