Author of "Rhymes or Porcupines", "The Odd Somewhere" and "Golf is a Ball"; Peter A. Hirsch is an abstract artist, writer, actor and entrepreneur. His paintings have been exhibited at The Honolulu Academy of Arts, "2005 Artists of Hawaii."
Peter reflects, "This is a pretty unusual but true story of why this e-book was written. Years ago, I wrote a couple of short stories, but I never wrote a single line of poetry. My mother was a published science fiction writer and a poet. About eight months after she passed away, I started to hear little verses in my head like "forty-nine days after running aground", or "asparagus soup with fruit loops" or "lying on a lawn so green, I fell asleep and had a dream." These continued for many years and I would write them down and then expound upon them until I had written over 145 short rhyming stories and poems. I added illustrations and photographs to enhance the poems and included 55 of the best in "Rhymes or Porcupines." I frequently hear verses or a couple of unusual words, not as frequent as before, but the saga continues."
Originally from Massapequa, New York, he graduated from the New York Institute of Technology in Westbury, New York with a B.F.A in Art Education. Shortly after college he relocated to Hawaii with his brother. He has resided in Hawaii for over 30 years, is married and lives with his wife in Honolulu. He loves the beauty and tranquility of the Hawaiian Isles and enjoys hiking, body surfing, drawing, painting and cooking.
Hirsch says, "Moving to Hawaii at a young age was a life changing decision and I am thankful every day for making such a fabulous choice! I love the life style, foods and people of Hawaii. Living here has given me enormous insight and respect for many local and foreign cultures. It is truly a melting pot filled with a diversity of people from the Pacific and Asia. I have gained so much knowledge about the Hawaiian, Japanese, Filipino, Chinese, Korean, and Local customs, traditions, languages and cuisines. It's my home and I can't imagine living in a lovelier place. I am blessed.
