Blog postThis is a play on the title of the famous song from the 1930's "I got Rhythm" by George Gershwin, with lyrics by his brother Ira.
That song was so popular, and so well constructed it became the basis for many other songs. The chord progression is known to jazz musicians as " Rhythm changes" and became the basis for many jazz instrumentals.
Gershwin was a Tin Pan Alley songwriter who later composed one of the most popular piano concertos of the 20th century4 years ago Read more -
Blog postThe late Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb
I talk about story telling in all my art classes. Here is a piece of pop music story telling expertly and wittily explained by Mark Steyn: Glen Campbell, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Webb and the utility worker.

Blog postWow! What a great start to the year!
January 2017 has been the best month ever at Inglis Academy.
What do I mean, the best month?
I have a simple metric: How many original paintings entered the world at Inglis Academy? And the answer is, about 50. Yep, that's a good month. Fifty people who have stepped into the arena and created something beautiful.
This is going to be a great year!

Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Or is it?
About 30% of the works in major museums are 'fakes', or as artists would say 'masterful recreations', but that shouldn't diminish one's enjoyment. A masterful work is a masterful work, regardless of its provenance.

Blog postOne of the great gifts of Western Art is that it helps us to see the world more clearly.
Most of us lead busy lives. We don't really have much time to stand gazing at the horizon and staring at clouds.
But with the mental tools of western art we can get more enjoyment out of even a moment of observation.

Blog postOne of my main inspirations for teaching masterworks to beginners was the work of John Myatt.
John Myatt is possibly the most sucessful art forger in history. He was commissioned to paint reproductions of hundreds of masterwork paintings, which were later sold as originals by a third party. Hundreds of these works were authenticated and sold at auction houses such as Sothebys and Christies. Eventually he was charged with art forgery, convicted and served time in prison.

What will we learn in this book?
How to tune your guitar quickly and accurately, the way professionals tune on all instruments.
Well, it's not that hard to get a guitar reasonably in tune. Millions of people do it every day. But there is a huge difference between the way an amateur tunes and the way a professional tunes their instrument.
And the professional method is what this book will show you.
For a professional, time is money. More importantly, the money is coming out of somebody else's pocket! The person paying the bill for your the rehearsal or performance you are engaged in has ZERO interest in hearing you tune up.
A professional is not paid to tune up - they are paid to play music. In a recording session this you must be able to tune quickly, quietly and accurately. Think about it, being out of tune, even slightly, means you might cost the producer thousands of dollars. Goodbye career!
Professionals work in very organised and efficient ways, down to the finest detail.
So let me restate it - this book, and all my publications, are about sharing with you the way music is made at the highest levels. What is known in many industries as "best practice".
Who is the book for?
This book will help three main categories of guitarist:
1. Beginners who want to learn to tune correctly.
2. Amateurs who want to tune as quickly as possible.
3. Teachers who want to impart best practice to their students.

What will we learn in this book?
How to play barre chords easily and without strain.
Who is the book for?
This book will help three main categories of guitarist:
1. Beginners
2. Frustrated guitarists who want to get the guitar out of the closet and have another crack at it
3. People who wish to avoid strain injury.
This book took over 40 years to write! Or to be more accurate, it took me over 40 years of playing the guitar to get a conscious inventory of the barre chord technique, something I had learned within a few months of starting the guitar.
Why should that be so? Aren't barre chords an essential part of guitar technique? Yes, they certainly are. And they are also the reason most people (wisely) give up on the instrument after about 6 months.
So why hasn't the barre chord been analysed successfully and documented from here to eternity? Because by the time our teacher becomes an author, or even a 'presenter' on Youtube, that process of mastering the barre has been well and truly lost in the mists of time.
At about the 6 month mark there is a process of natural selection - those who can't play barre chords do something other than the guitar, and those who can play barre chords carry on. A percentage of that group end up as guitar teachers. A much smaller sub-set write books about the activity.
I first documented 'the process' of how to play the barre chord back in the 1990s. Being very fortunate to have martial arts and Alexander Technique instruction when still a teenager, the barre chord came fairly easy to me. By talking about the 'gesture of expansion' I thought I had it all covered. Those who have read my earlier books will remember how little information I thought was needed to adequately explain the activity.
It was only recently that my explorations of the Feldenkrais Method led me to make conscious the connections between certain movements I had learned in the martial art Wing Chun, and the practice of the barre chord.
Using the information in this book anybody will be able to master barre chords on the guitar.
