- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2019We actually use this guide as our first line of identification. The drawings are accurate and they give specific indicators for each species.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2023I purchased this book, not only for the information but for the pictures to help with my drawing class. Successful purchase!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2022Needed a book to identify trees in our woods. The descriptions were exactly what we needed.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2023It was a little less informative than I was hoping for, but it's definitely a decent starter book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2013My grandson was excited when I gave him this book. Said he wanted a book on trees for when he went to camp and to learn about what he was looking at. To tell the difference between the many different trees he was seeing. I didn't know he wanted a book on trees so was pleasantly surprised when he became excited while looking at the book.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2012Not quite a guide that you can put in your back pocket but I stash this one in my backpack, often. It is sturdily designed and the drawings are large and descriptions are very accurate - Trees are actually easy to identify. I will always use this book. Recommend it highly.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2017Love it. Have this book on our breakfast bar for quick access. It is stacked with my birding book with opera glasses on top. This is handy for my daily constitution on the patio overlooking the lake and trees.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2013Excellent illistrations for such a difficult task. The book is listed for children but it is not childish at all. It is well written, and the visual drawings complement the written descriptions.

We take this into the woods with us (me, my 8-year-old and my 4-year-old). Its easy enough for them to use, and they get a kick out of 1) figuring out what tree they're looking at, and 2) reading about the different uses for different trees. Now we know that basswood bark can make rope!

Very informative... A must-have for our nature walks and outdoor education!
Penny McEwenReviewed in Canada on December 29, 20155.0 out of 5 stars highly recommended
for a young naturalist
Kris BReviewed in Canada on November 29, 20234.0 out of 5 stars Solid book, but not a complete reference.
I was impressed with the images in the book, despite them being watercolor and not photos, they were easy to use as identification tools.
As my title states, this is not a complete reference, so keep that in mind if ordering.
It's suitable for my purposes, but maybe not yours.
Amazon CustomerReviewed in Canada on November 19, 20183.0 out of 5 stars Good book
it is a nice compact book that can be easily carried in the forest. It is a good book, but i would prefer a book that covered the geographic area that i live in, rather than all of Canada, USA. Photo's of outside bark could be beneficial as well.
