How to pick the right size kennel for your dog
When it comes to kennels, size matters. Whether you select a plastic or a wire kennel, if it’s too small, your dog will not be comfortable. On the other hand, if the kennel is too large, house training may not be effective, as your pet may go to the bathroom on one side and sleep on the other. To properly size your dog for a kennel, measure him from the top of his head to the floor and from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail. The height of the kennel should be 1-2 inches taller than your pet when they are standing and sitting down, and there should only be enough room for your pet to stand up, turn around, sit and lie down.

Last week, I saw a post from an animal rescuer friend who got into a car accident with three dogs in her car of various sizes, all in wire crates. After the accident, all three dogs were loose, the crates had fallen apart and combusted on itself, and one dog suffered spinal injuries from being thrown.
Fast forward a few days after I shared that post on facebook as a precautionary tale, I got into a car accident myself, with one of my dogs in the kennel/car with me. The impact location was right where his crate was, near the back quarter panel. The impact was fast and hard enough to spin the car around 360. Both my back tires were off on an angle, side airbags deployed, all of it. I walked away with severe bruising all over. My dog ended up with a dislocated hip. I truly, truly believe, that the plastic kennel fit snugly together in a tight space saved him from much worse injury. He could have been thrown, he could have had broken bones.
Please reconsider how you travel with your pets and look into a good quality travel kennel, not just for flying your pet.
I love the door latches that open on both sides, and I love that they twist instead of squeeze open. Easier for me. So easy to open on one side or the other or to remove the door completely when I want it left open and don't need to confine her for short periods. I also like that it has a larger door opening than other kennels.
As far as putting it together, it really is easy. Just follow the instructions carefully. The whole trick is getting it all snapped into place correctly before you ever try to put the 4 screws in. If one little latch is not in place then the holes for your screws will not line up. You'll only have half a hole to put a screw through. My second one was much easier than the first because I knew this!
Great kennel for a great price in my opinion!
The downside: I feel like there could be more bolts to secure around the edges. I bought this because I thought it would be suited for airline travel, and upon inspecting it, while I feel like the door is much more sturdy than you would normally find, I'm not entirely sure the rest would pass muster for the airlines. It does look slightly cheap, in my opinion, even though it is well made - that doesn't bother me, but it might some. For everyday use, it's great though.
I love that the doors can open in any direction. The only problem is that they aren't quite as sturdy as I had hoped. The sliding / locking mechanisms on the sides of the carrier aren't quite as stiff as you'd expect.. so sometimes they don't fit exactly right. Just make sure you have it locked together and you'll be fine.
