I have a cat that urinates up high and often targets the area where a litter box with a lid meets the base, so it would go between the two and get on the floor. I think this litter box is a great idea and I'm sure would work for most cats. Unfortunately, my cat isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and couldn't figure out how to enter through the top. So, I cut a normal litter sized entry hole in the front and he goes in that way. Slight modification, and both problems solved!!!

I am glad that my cat uses it! I was worried she would reject the top entry style but she took to it well enough. I got one of the larger sizes that I saw online because a lot of them look so small to fit a full grown cat. My adult cat is only 8 lbs so if you have a larger cat I am not sure they would like this. One thing I wish was different was that the lid hinges so that the litter collected on the top falls to the ground when you open it instead of back into the litter box. I knew that going into it based on past reviews but this one had other design features like size and durability (according to reviews) that I still chose it over other models. So far it is keeping the litter tracking much more manageable than it was compared to my previous litter box which was still supposed to be a pretty good litter box for minimizing litter tracking (high sided - partially hooded). I do have a cat tree next to the litter box which I think helps my cat get in and out and offers a second cat designated area for litter to catch before tracking throughout my home. I will update if it ends up not being durable - but so far so good for a petite cat.

Thank you Petmate for making a litter box for cats that stand to urinate! I have 2 cats and one likes to stand when she urinates. This often over sprays litter boxes with shorter sides. My search for high sided litter boxes has been challenging. Many have 3 high sides, leaving one side low for entry for the cat. That works well for cat's that know they shouldn't turn their backside to the low side! My adorable baby didn't read the memo and would often over spray right out the door (thankfully onto the waterproof mat under the box), lol! This Petmate box eliminates this elimination problem! All sides are high. It cleans up easily with soap and water. It helps to contain the litter for kitties that like to dig. Highly recommend! A few suggestions:

1. Add adequate litter to weigh down the box so kitty doesn't tip the box while coming and going. My girls like to put their paws on the edge to strategize their entry and exit. If you only have an inch of litter in the bottom, the cat can tip the box over. I go with 3 inches of litter on the bottom to prevent this.
2. Take off the top if kitty is skittish. My girls like things open and airy. Most cats do NOT like to be confined while eliminating. Part of their survival instinct dictates quick getaways. Additionally, cats like their boxes clean. Topless boxes allow odors to escape and are less offensive to cats. My girls had no interest in the box until I removed the top. Now they hop in and out with no issue.
3. Chunkier kitties may need a step stool for entry and exit. One of my girls is a little fuller in the figure and likes to use a sturdy, wide based step stool to get in and out of the box.

We have a 2 cat household. I've had the cat genie automatic cleaning one (a piece broke and it flooded my downstairs and the company repaired the damage and I believe now uses a metal fitting in lieu of the plastic one that broke on my unit). My cats were never super in love with it and they would always prefer to use a standard box instead. I've got the Nature's miracle automatic cleaning cat box currently which honestly is NOT worth the extra mess it tends to make. I've stopped using the automatic cleaning function completely and just scoop it like a regular cat box because litter always gets out around the collection container and my cats must pee more than other cats and they like to pee in the same corner of the box which means that after the first scoop or two, all the waste is piled up on one side in the collection container which prevents it from closing and so the odor can get pretty bad if I don't empty it multiple times a day. In need of a second litter box for the laundry room as one of my feline overlords has decided to occasionally guard the upstairs box, I purchased this praying that they would not be physically able to make the same kind of litter projectile mess that they manage with the other box. my prayers were answered. I saw previous reviews about the handles making it difficult to clean and can happily confirm that this no longer is an issue as those handles are gone now. It has a handy hook for holding the scooper right there on the outside of the box. I use a small hand boom to brush any litter that has collected on the lid and not fallen back down in the holes toward the holes before I open it to scoop it. And I literally am only having to sweep the laundry room once a week, that's how little litter is escaping this thing. When I got it, I immediately filled it up with high quality clumping litter and I introduced each cat to it individually by plopping them right inside it so they would know what it was. Then I put the lid on and walked away. To my delight, the next morning there was no puddle on the laundry room floor where my more timid cat had started resorting to urinating on when the jerk cat was guarding the upstairs box and there were three clumps of waste in the box. The cats still seem to prefer the upstairs box as that one always has more waste in it each day when I scoop it but I'm seriously considering purchasing a second one to replace that monstrosity of a box box that has the janky auto-scooping function that I stopped using. Even though that open box upstairs has pretty high sides, I have to sweep that bathroom daily and we still end up with some litter in the hall outside the bathroom that gets tracked out on kitty paws. Seriously, my cats can defy laws of physics with their litter-throwing shenanigans. The only reason I haven't already replaced it is that they still do seem to prefer the open top box upstairs since they clearly use that one first every day. So, if you're still reading.... Don't spend your money on super expensive self-cleaning boxes that your cats may not even want to use (sorry cat genie, i wanted to love you) or that make tons of noise and only do a so-so job of scooping the waste (sorry Nature's Miracle autoscooping box, I wanted to love you too). This is the box. It takes me less time to scoop this manually than it takes to clean up the mess the auto cleaning box makes trying to do it's thing and the amount of litter that hits the floor out of this box is miniscule. I only wish the manufacturer would make a ramp that attached to the outside of it for those with older cats that don't jump as well.

So 1st off I don't have a small cat, my boy is around 13 lbs so I was concerned with size. But he took to this box after a few days. He likes the fact I can add more litter so he can dig and bury. I love the fact he's not tracking litter everywhere. My dogs 1 large and 1 small can't get in it. On the plus side to adding more litter so he can bury stuff I no longer smell any of his business.

Die Größenangabe dieser Katzentoilettenbeutel ist vollkommen irreführend. Laut Größenangabe hätten sie auch auf unsere Rotho-Katzentoilette gepasst, aber in der Praxis weit gefehlt und nicht ausreichend weit um über alle 4 Ecken drüber zu kommen. Dafür hätten die Tüten locker 10 cm länger sein müssen. Das Material ist auch viel zu dünn und daher umgehend durchgekratzt. Ich empfinde das Produkt als vollkommen überteuert, ich werde es daher nicht mehr kaufen, der eine Versuch hat klug gemacht. There are several things wrong with these apparently custom-made liners, so I'm going to be looking for an alternative solution, but for the moment they're better than nothing -- IF they haven't been so torn up that all the litter escapes into the bottom of the box when you try to empty it anyway.
1) They are not a good fit at all - they're not shaped generously enough nor are they the right shape to work -- if they had 4 corners rather than 2 it would be a start
2) The plastic is so unbelievably flimsy that it tears by the second cat visit. It's not helped by the fact that the liner billows out from the sides inside the box because it's so much not the right fit for the box
3) The lid doesn't click on firmly enough to hold the liner in place when a cat gets busy. I'm constantly trying to clamp it back in. Meantime the cat might have been busy and done even more tearing-up because half or more of the liner is hanging down into the bottom of the box
4) It's so hopeless I think I'm going to seek out another brand of box that has better-fitting liners. The fact that Petmate makes these for its top box makes it all the more puzzling that they're so useless. If anyone from Petmate is reading this, I think you should be aware that the liners are so useless as to put people like me off and onto another brand.
