Good for a Bigger Cat

It is not as big as I expected but I made it work. My cat is 17 years old and he weighs 20 pounds. He was peeing regularly over the wall of his old litterbox. With this box he does it less often (usually out the lower side where he enters) but I made some modifications and the situation has become manageable. First I put some folded up cardboard under the the aforementioned lower side to raise it up a bit and kind of force him to walk further into the box. Then I sort of grade most of the litter toward the back so it's very shallow where he enters. Now if pees close to that shorter wall it won't go over. Finally I put a puppy pad at the entrance. He still hits the puppy pad every once in a while, but much less than before. Underneath all of that is a rubber mat; the kind you would put under an exercise machine. Easy to vacuum up loose litter and wipe up the rare pee outside the higher walls.

It's very large and although I didn't want to have this large of a litter box, it became necessary. My 4 month old kitten just wouldn't stop stepping in his feces once he was done using his litter box. Almost every time he would accidentally step in it and it would get all over the place and on his paws. I tried different litters, but it didn't help. The one thing that has been working is this box! I guess he's just a cat that needs more room. I'm so thankful I found this and it worked! It was no fun cleaning up poo on a kitten.

No problems with pee going over the edge! It’s a very large box and perfect for a large cat. I have a Norwegian forest cat and he has plenty of room in there.

When you get this it seems quite flimsy... the plastic is not as thick as your conventional tray. I was initially concerned how the bottom of the tray when viewed from the outside looking along the flat aspect of the bottom - was actually 'round' (convex), so i was concerned it wouldn't be stable as it wasn't flat to the floor.. however when you put the litter in it flattens itself out and it's actually perfectly fine.

It's big and the high sides on three sides really stop debris finding it's way onto the surrounding floor.

...However there IS one thing though which I've struggled with... If you're like me, on coming to change the litter you scoop around the litter to make sure there are no areas which are stuck to the bottom. Then you open the bin liner, place the tray end into the liner, carefully enshrouding the bottom end of the tray so when you lift it, the contents with gravity go into the bag. Just one problem... the dimensions of this are such that it's a real struggle to get even a normal sized blag bag/bin liner over even the lower 'entry' end, so that you can tip the contents.. it's really tight and hard and i almost had a spillage last time... so just be aware of that. If you tip to empty a used litter tray - you're gonna need a bigger bag..!!!!

********** UPDATE*********

I'm very sad to have to downgrade my review due to an issue arising with this tray and my cat, which i wasn't aware of until just tonight.

A number of times since i got this tray i had noticed that Purdey my cat had the odd flake of cat litter stuck to her face - only one or two very small bits of residue.. and then once or twice i had got a small whiff of 'used cat litter' smell when stroking her.. i never connected the dots, but tonight i saw her use the tray and understood what's been happening.
Cats will sometimes pace around in the tray prior to finding 'the right spot' where they want to pass urine or solids. This tray has high sides which has certainly helped reduce the 'overthrow' when she's cleaning up afterwords with her paws. However, i watched her tonight just by chance and she 'settled' for a spot where she was positioned with her face about an inch off the side of the tray - being so high as it is. As she passed solids, obviously pushing as she went, basically her head got closer to the side and her face and head, through her movement, ended up being pushed 'downwards' into the corner of the tray, and midflow wasn't about to reposition herself.
This meant that by the time she had finished she was hunched-over with her head virtually in the litter. As she finished, not wanting to backwards into the waste she had just passed, but unable to go forwards due to the high side, she ended up collapsing to one side and having to 'scramble' her way out of the tray. It was awful to watch.
Even with a large sized tray cats will sometimes just choose to position nearer to the side than the middle, and so i understood why my poor baby had litter dust on her face and in her fur - and the smell also.

With lower sides she was able to 'lean' out over the side a little bit and exit where she was. Sadly, the high sides which stop the cat littler escaping out - sometimes also stop the cat escaping out from a squatted position after use.

So i'm afraid this tray will be getting washed and put in the garage to be used as some form of receptacle for garden use or something.

Back to finding my baby another tray.

Perfect for my 20yr old cat who has started urinating over the sides of all other trays presented to her leaving time consuming messes every other hour. Now we can be assured we won't step in urine or faeces upon entering the room, wonderful! I have four cats, one of whom is elderly and prone to missing normal litter trays. This one fabulous tray has usurped the other three so-called large ones that I had, consequently I have regained hours of my life - instead of having to shovel, swab and mop, the mess is contained so it is easier to clean up. This tray is perfectly high at the sides but not too high for even my smallest kitty. A 10 litre bag of litter is about right for the tray. It reminds me of a baby bath, only bigger. It arrived before the estimated time, too. I cannot recommend this tray too highly, especially for those who are struggling with slightly incontinent moggies or have several cats. Buy it, you won't regret it.

This is a huge litter box. Bigger than your average Rubbermaid plastic tote, which I was considering buying because my cats are monsters. Giant, fuzzy monsters. But I went for this product and I'm glad I did. If you're worried that this might still be too small for your weirdly huge cats, worry no more. I can't think of a cat big enough for this to be too small. And if, against all odds, the litter box is too small for your cat still, that's because your cat comes from the jungle and is not actually a cat. Take it back to the jungle where it belongs, and get a cat that will fit into this litter box.

Purchase because her old, large litter tray, that was big enough with clumping mineral litter in wasn't big enough when I switched her over to wood based litter, and TBH I was sick of hovering 4 times a day, and that's with the biggest litter mat I can find.

It's quite big, really quite big, lying in it, sprawled out, you could fit 3 of my cat in it (before I put litter in it). Apparently it makes a great bed, she was in it for 2 hours after I unpacked it before she got out and I was allowed to put cat litter in it.

Since I put the cat litter in (oko best or something like that - wood stuff) she doesn't want to know, in fact I've been told off, several times, for putting cat litter in her new bed. It seems to need between 12 and 15 liters of wood based cat litter to get it up to the lower line.

I've no doubt she'll figure it out eventually.
