The Petnostics kit comes with a urine cup, their special lid, and a latex glove (nice thoughtful touch). I then went about trying to collect my dog’s pee. At first, this was a little tricky, because I couldn’t quite time when to put the cup under my dog when he lifted his leg to relieve himself. Luckily, my dog likes to mark, and so I was able to get his urine by the third time he lifted his leg.
Once I got the urine in the cup, I screwed on the special lid and opened the Petnostics app. The app is well-designed and easy to use, and walked me step-by-step through the whole process. I then got to the screen where the camera appears and lined up the phone with the cup. This also was a little tricky at first, but after a few seconds moving the phone around to better line up with the grid displayed on the screen, the app found the cup and I was able to see the results.
Not knowing much about the different health parameters, everything came back as normal except for Glucose, which showed as Small. With my family history, I know Glucose for humans can be a sign of diabetes, so this got me a little worried. I then called my vet and told her about the results, and she asked me to bring my doggie in for a checkup. Good thing I did! The glucose in my dog’s urine was confirmed by my vet, and fortunately because we caught this early, my vet said that the treatment for possible diabetes is not too bad, as we’re first going to switch my dog’s diet and see how he responds.
Anyway, sorry for the long review, but I wanted to be thorough, as I really believe Petnostics is a helpful and useful product. Thanks so much for reading!
Its good to know there was no issue, but it is a shame that we went to such lengths. $300 later He was put on incontinence medication which is seeming to help. It was going to be our first attempt prior to getting spooked into the blood test buy a false positive.

I downloaded the Petnostics free app (Android) before I purchased the product, to ensure it would work and i successfully registered my pets.
It arrived the next day (amazon prime).
Inside the Petnostics box is the urine container and lid which is sealed separately.
I successfully collected urine from my female dog and male dog with no issues. (I didn't need to buy the female urine collector- sold separately).
Then load the app, choose your pet. Follow onscreen instructions;
Secure lid tightly
Flip cup upside down
Flip cup upright
Wait for 60 sec (the app times it)
Then Align Lid- This is where I had problems. You need to align the lid with your phones camera, for it to scan to give you your results. I could not align the lid, the lid is round but on my phone the lid alignment was oval. After a few attempts it, the app then said it wasn't compatible with my phone (Samsung 6 edge plus) and I would have to take a photo: "Manual Image- 'It looks like we're having trouble detecting your cup. Tap ok to take a photo for manual processing.'
You then take a photo of the lid. Take the photo within 1min or results maybe inaccurate. Once you have your picture press ok and it will email the photo with your details to the company. You then have to wait a day or 2 for results to be emailed.
When I received my email, they told me to log out of the app and log back in. My pets results were waiting for me.
It tested the following: Bilirubin, Blood, Glucose, Ketone, Leukocytes, Nitrite, ph, Protien, Specfic gravity, Urobilinogen.
You can then share the result with your vet or print them out. Which Is good as I'm not a vet and not sure what the levels need to be. It does give you some guidance e.g one my dogs 'Bilirubin' result showed a small trace and it says "Bilirubin is a substance that is produced in the liver and should be negative in your pets urine. A small amount can be normal for healthy dogs, but large values may be associated with liver disease. Please consult your vet for more information."
I really like this idea, but it needs a lot more work. Petnostics is an American company and they need to improve the UK apps. The iPhone app looks a lot better (only judging by the photos and videos online) and when my husband changes his mobile back to iPhone I might buy this again when its on offer and see if its any better.
Update may 2016. This product is still bad however you can download the app for iPhone. So I did try and do this on my husbands phone however it is so difficult to get a sample with the cup provided I have a Pembroke corgi so she's low to the ground so could only get a small sample so I went through the process that the app asks you to do and no readings came up so I still found it dysfunctional. Plus you a ring re-use the cup so it's very wasteful. Don't waste your money
