I purchased this item for my FIV-positive cat who has periodic bouts of stomatitis. First of all, the mint flavor is not like the mint flavor of catnip and it contains something which irritated his mouth and caused a flare-up of his mucus membranes to the point where he would not eat because it hurt his mouth. After lots of TLC, antibiotics and coaxing him to eat broths made from baby food, he is finally getting back to his old self and not hiding when I come into the room because he is afraid I am going to spray his mouth again. It might be okay for dogs, but I would not recommend buying this for your cat, especially if they have any oral issues. I purchased this from Dogstuff-4U for $39.99 with free shipping and wonder if they will take it back and refund my money or if the company who manufactured it offers a money-back guarantee.

UPDATE: 06/29/13

I have never heard back from either this seller after leaving this review or the PetzLife company after contacting them and asking them about the "guarantee" mentioned on their website.

Not all dogs have bad teeth. Some do. (My dachshund sure does.) I really don't want to brush my dog's teeth. This product makes it so I don't have to. I just spray it once or twice a day and I have watched the tartar slowly fall off after just a couple of weeks. It's amazing. Worth every penny. I tried every oral spray PetsMart had to offer and that stuff was a waste of time and money. This stuff works.

I'm a life-long dog owner and aware of the dangers of poor dental care. However in spite of proper feeding/care our 6 year old Beagle developed bad tarter on his back teeth and our vet advised cleaning as soon as possible. Not wanting to subject him to anesthesia I started researching plaque removal products. After reading other reviews I purchased this product at a local pet store. It's AMAZING. Using twice a day for less than a month he has nearly puppy-white teeth. I did brush the back teeth a couple of times to loosen the plaque with seemed helpful. Once I saw the product was working I started using it on my son's Puggle too with excellent results. The 2.2 ounce bottle lasted 6 weeks, spraying the Beagle twice daily for the first month and once every couple of days after that. I am so impressed I ordered an 8 oz refill for myself (for less than I paid for the original small bottle) and two other bottles for my daughter's and sister's dogs. I can't wait to take my dog back to the vet and tell/show him how effective this product is. Although this is an all natural product I did notice some redness of the gums when I was doing the twice daily treatment. The alcohol might be a little harsh but it doesn't last long and tooth decay is worse. I highly recommend this product.

I use this product on my show dogs and am very pleased with it. I much prefer it to having the dogs put under for a dental procedure at the vet. I have found that with the continued use of PetzLife over time, their teeth become sparkling clean and stay that way.

Been using it for 9-10 years. I think this is just a mix of nut oils, cocoanut oils etc that are fat soluble and the like. It soaks into the plaque and softens it remarkably well. Be careful who you buy this from, as a few of sellers I've used in the past will dilute the contents with water to save $$. If you've ever had the real stuff and compare it, you'll know right away. My suggestion to amazon was to put a shrink wrap on it from the factory, but what do I know. Amazon stays on it though, and has shut down a few of these fine people, and I haven't had that problem in a few years. Oh - get a spray bottle too and just refill it.

Collies have a unique jaw/tooth structure, and a lot of the big molars don't get much attention. Food will often just hang around in the back and eventually plaque up. At least in this breed. Problem with this stuff is you HAVE to use it daily, and give it 3-4 pumps per side - starting way in the back. The dogs love it.

What it does is somehow loosens the hard deposits all over the teeth. Or softens it. From there, the dogs will usually chew on a stick or a toy or something, and the plaque will just pop off by itself. Without being softened, it requires dental hard steel tools to pop/scrape and grind this off the teeth.

I can say from experience - if you ignore a dog's teeth nowadays, the bacteria will flow up into the jawbone, down into the esophagus, and even up into the brain and can kill your dog early on. The symptoms are rarely indicative of tooth issues, such as throat cancer parendentitus(?) etc. It's an agonizing mess that no antibiotic can cure once it starts - believe me.

Based on product reviews I purchased this product and it started working on my 2 dogs' breath right away. After about 20 days of regular use, my 12 year old dog's breath is as sweet as it was when she was younger. My 10 year old dog, who never had good breath, now has very good breath and their kisses leave no bad smells. In addition their teeth have gotten whiter, their gums have gotten visibly healthier, and the tartar is much, much easier to get off. There have been no adverse side affects and don't mind me spraying it in their mouths. I recently ordered the 8 oz refill and am so happy I found this great product. Buy it with confidence!
