What you'll need is some abrasive cord, or a set of small files. I think the abrasive cord will have a better outcome.
Remove the rope from the crampon, noting the path it takes. Pass the abrasive cord over the routes the ropes pass by, paying attention to give each edge/corner a smooth finish. The photos show the original machining, and my (admittedly lackluster) smoothing job.
I've used the modified crampons on 6 trips in the white mountains, only carrying paracord as backup in case the ropes cut, but it never happened! Good luck everyone.
