First, the Petzls are more difficult to operate than the LIM. There's two buttons instead of one and the buttons are smaller and don't work as decisively as my LIM. Half the time with the Petzl, I have to take the headlamp off my head to turn the darn thing off. Before I bought an LIM, I thought the Petzls were great. Now I know better.
To be fair, the LIM is much brighter (250 lumens vs. only 120 for the Tikka R+ - with constant output, not the "reactive" mode). So I can see much better with the LIM. And the LIM has a bigger, separate battery mounted on the back of the head strap. Both headlamps charge with USB.
What I like about the Petzl Tikka R+ is the removable battery. The LIM does not have an easy way to replace the battery. So when the battery fails, I will have to buy another, or send it to LIM. This is a big plus for the Petzl.
The LIM has a unique design that fits under your hood, if you are wearing one. The little LIM light pokes out from under the hood perfectly, which is really cool. The Petzl can be worn under a hood, but does not fit quite as well due to the larger size of the light/battery combo on the front of the headlamp.
TIPS: The battery was dead when I received mine. You really need to give it a full charge before you start playing around with it. The Reactive Lighting will not work and I almost returned mine before giving it a chance. Li-Ion batteries do not like to be fully drained. Why they choose to ship them this way is beyond me.
This lamp exceeded my expectations. I was skeptical at first, but after wearing it for a long run, I was hooked. It weighs a bit but you will get used to it if you give it a chance. The illumination is also exceptional. I have to run on very dark roads and this made it easier.
Now I don't have to worry about cars not seeing me, wild animals thinking I am a meal (just kidding), dogs that are not in for the night and falling into a pot hole and twisting my ankle.
Overall a very well designed and manufactured product.
