Why Choose a Peugeot Mill?
For each spice, a specific mechanism has been designed to best express its organoleptic wealth, its singularity, its imagination. This commitment to flavor is backed up with the best attention to the quality of the materials.
Developed and manufactured by Peugeot in France since 1874, the pepper mill features a specific mechanism to get the best out of peppercorns. Made of case-hardened teeth, it offers exceptional precision. The two stage mechanism first cracks the spice and then grinds it into a uniform powder. Well made, long-lasting, the Peugeot mechanism is virtually indestructible. The mill is a chef’s favorite that will be passed on from one generation to the next.
Peugeot believes that each spice deserved its own mechanism. Salt and pepper are very different so Peugeot has developed and manufactured a specific mechanism to process dry salt crystals. Made of stainless-steel and treated against corrosion, it is adjustable and offers a precise, uniform grind. Enjoy your favorite dry salt or salt blend, as long as the size of the crystals is below 4mm. If you’re looking to grind sea salt or grey salt, we recommend Peugeot’s ceramic mechanism featuring a patented anti-clogging mechanism that has been engineered specifically for wet salt.
u'Select Grind Selection
u’Select from Peugeot is the perfect grind selection system. Simply turn the ring at the bottom of the mill to select the desired coarseness. This patented precision system offers infinite grinding options, from extra fine to very coarse and anywhere in between. Six pre-defined levels of grind for pepper and for salt are marked on the u’Select ring.

We've gone through several pepper mills over the past 40 years. Somewhere in there -- 25 years ago? something like that -- we bought a small Peugeot salt-and-pepper set. It's well-worn, in the loved-and-used way, but the pepper grinder has never once hiccuped. It doesn't hold that much, but we love it.
Even though we've bought several more pepper grinders over the years, they aren't the same quality. For instance, we have a beautiful handmade unit that cannot be adjusted, so it's useful only if I want a rough grind. Another very pretty grinder fell apart in my hands after four or five years.
So heck, I figured, I might as well buy the best quality. I am so glad I did.
It charges with a USB connection; I haven't needed to recharge it in the several weeks we've owned the pepper mill. It's super-easy to adjust the grind, even when your hands are goopy from cooking. It holds a lot, so it doesn't need to be filled often (though it was easy enough to do so). It does its grinding magic with the gentlest of touches... and honestly it is so much fun that I've been intentionally choosing things to cook that need a lot of pepper.
This is superb. And I know it'll last a lifetime.
Peugeot has finally applied their level of quality to electric grinders. I love everything about it. One handed operation is a cinch. Changing to different grind sizes is not only easy, but repeatable given the numbered markings and can be done from the exterior rather than reaching up underneath as is most common with other mills. I've had it for about 6 months and it continue to produce a large quantity of ground pepper consistently. The battery for me cooking once a day has lasted for about 3 months between recharging which is done via a micro-usb plug. The grinder is also very durable as well as of course having the excellent classic Peugeot styling. It'd be nice to have a smaller version, but the quality is well worth the size and price. It costs more initially, but doesn't need new batteries and doesn't need to be replaced every 6 months to a year.
