While Rohl comes to the subjects covered in the text with insights garnered from his research and studies in preparation for the his doctoral dissertation, many of his assertions and conclusions fall markedly outside the generally accepted and understood majority understanding of the Israelites of the biblical text and their relationship to neighbouring countries. His placement of the kings of Israel's 10th century United Monarchy as literary amalgamations of the earlier 14th century Amarna princes of Canaan is a tenuous reading of somewhat dated scholarship with a nice dash of fancy and imagination. If one of my student's were to quote some of Rohl's conclusions in a research paper, my red ink might read, "Surely you just."
Excellent diagrams and photos accompany a text full of good data sprinkled with excursions into the scholarly dubious. I give it a "74" because, in the end, you just can't dance to it.
