I've used all the major RDP apps; Splashtop, TeamViewer, PocketCloud, LogMeIn. I use Splashtop most, because it's the fastest with live video streams. TeamViewer probably is more powerful, but a bit harder to configure for video streaming. I like to use apps like this to access my security camera laptop, and view it on my tablet while at home or away. So I was excited to give Jump a try.

Jump is very easy to setup. Just download the app, then go to their website and download the companion software onto the computer you want to control. You can do a direct VPN or use your Google account for fast and easy setup. I was up and running in under 5 min.

The connection from my tablet to my laptop is very fast. Probably the fastest of all the RDP apps I've tried. My security cams were all rendering seamlessly and the video was crisp, clear, and stutter free. Oh, and I'm running a dozen security cams at once, so it's no small task to stream all that live video so cleanly.

I still think TeamViewer is a more powerful RDP app, with file sharing, meetings and all it has to offer. But the video streaming with Jump is so fast, that it may well become my day to day, go-to RDP app. Really liking it thus far, and the setup couldn't be easier. Love it. EXCELLENT FAOTD!! Happy! ;oD

UPDATE: I've been playing around with Jump like a kid in a candy store. This app is fantastic. There's a Free Remote Desktop companion program available at Jump's website. With that, I'm now able to control 2 computers directly with it; laptop to laptop. I have to say, the more I use it, the more impressed I am with Jump.

I just LOVE how it has both major protocols covered in one application! Now I can use the same app to connect with my Windows, Linux AND Mac OSX boxes, transparently and seamlessly. Bravo! This is the best remote desktop app I have ever seen on Android! FIVE well deserved stars!

I have been using this app for the last few months on my iphone and ipad. Finally there is a version for my droid.
I can't tell you how many times this app has saved my day by letting me remote into my home computer. Few weeks back I was travelling internationally and forgot to put a file i needed in my drop box. I used jump desktop to remote into my computer on my phone and put the file in the drop box folder.
Great app, easy to use, a must for every smartphone.

After playing around with this program, purchased as a FAotD, I have to say this is almost but not quite a great app. I've only ever used Splashtop so my comparisons can only be made against that program.

This app has several positives in its favor:

* Setup is relatively easy. In my case, the installer had to download a second program called TightVNC since my copy of Win XP doesn't have RDP built-in. This process was entirely automated. The only hitch here is if you're using Google Two Step authentication, which is a pain in the rear. You'll need to generate a custom password just for this program for it to work if you use 2-step. The setup instructions for the desktop client mention this under the troubleshooting section and link to the two-step help page on Google, which is nice.

* The connection appears to be secure. I'll be honest, I wasn't aware that Splashtop didn't use a secure connection. I'm not sure how much of a threat this could be, but if security is an issue for you, this is definitely the pick over Splashtop. For me, I'm not sure it's really something to worry about. Besides needing your Google password to log in to this app, you'll need to pick a password to access TightVNC.

* On-screen tools in the app are well thought out. Compared to Splashtop, this layout and setup are awesome. I especially love the enlarged cursor and it's "bubble" that make precision pointing/clicking easy even when zoomed out a good bit. The text on some keys is very small, though, on my phone's 1080p screen. Those keys are hard to read but the button size is good so it's difficult to hit the wrong button. And the three-dot Android menu button hides/shows the special app buttons for a full screen experience.

* CPU use on the desktop side.

I've never had one of these programs before, but since it was the FAOTD I decided to give it a try. I am very impressed! I played around with it for a little bit, looking through some of my files and pictures. I opened a photo editing program and now I can edit photos from my KFHD. Awesome for when I don't want to lug my big laptop upstairs. I look forward to playing around with it some more. I don't know all the capabilities, but so far it seems to work really well.

what an amazing FAOTD! i've wanted to try a remote desktop client ever since i got my (original) kindle fire, but i didn't really NEED one so i was never willing to shell out the big bucks. plus, i could never quite believe that these things worked. but this one does!

i had a bit of trouble getting the host software installed on my mac & had to run the installer a couple times to get it done. it would find an update during the installation, and ask me if i wanted the update, and then hang while installing it. but it finally worked. then when i opened jump desktop, i had trouble finding its icon in the menu bar, because it's gray and it blended in with the background. but once i found it, everything was smooth sailing from then on.

i have experienced zero problems running this on my kindle. it will wake my mac from sleep, which is essential. now i can run my mac from my bed! i have yet to try this when i'm away from home though. i guess that will be the real test of its worthiness.

the only feature that's lacking in this app (so far as i can tell) is the ability to stream sound. so i can't play music or videos on it, although the videos do play. i just can't hear them. i assume that sound would slow everything down a lot. i don't know if splashtop or any other remote clients can do sound.

i used gmail to connect and it was very simple & easy. now i just have to be really careful not to lose my kindle, because the app remembers my mac's password. but i was being careful already, and so far so good.
