It was a sunny Seattle morning. Mia was riding her bicycle to work when a pretty blue Honda slammed into her right side, knocking her unconscious. Over the following months she suffered through constant pain and a host of cognitive ailments. Her once impressive mental abilities were gone and her beloved career in technology came crumbling down. After four grueling years of rehabilitation, with her brain and body still not fully restored, she was sent home to enjoy her children and what was left of her life. Refusing to accept what she was being told was her certain future, Mia set out to find a way to heal her body and mind.
An inspirational account of life after brain injury and the search to find the meaning and purpose of a new life and a new dream.

This book is amazing. It is full of valuable information and hope. Mia is a true inspiration. Her own story of taking charge of her life to move from brain injury to brain awakening is so encouraging. It's a must read for anyone who has been touched by brain injury - it's for patients, families, caregivers, healthcare professionals, physicians as well as teachers, coaches and community advocates. This book is an incredable journey from traumatic brain injury and its life changing complications to the connection of how what we eat affects the brain, and to the gift of helping others. I especially like the statement on page 89: "No matter what our ability, there is a place for each of us."

I am guessing that the 5 star reviews are from Mia's friends.
This book is completely disjointed. Parts of it read as stream of consciousness.
While Mia gets an A+ for persistence and attitude, you need to know that there is really very little to someone with a brain injury hope. She loses her job and from what I can tell, never gets it back. She does not seem to fully recover functionally or cognitively. It's not totally clear but in the end it sounds like she's living in a trailer.
At one point she starts talking about raw foods and that they are a life saver. Ah, the reader thinks, finally we're getting somewhere! But no. It's not clear that raw foods healed her in any sustained way. They may have helped somewhat (temporarily?) but even this is not clear.
There is a ton of free inspiration online for TBI patients who fully recovered. I'd encourage you to read that instead of buying this.

The beginning of this book could be any of us on our way to work. What follows is the story of an amazing woman who exemplifies the true meaning of human potential and is an example to is all.
