I will preface this review with the fact I did call AMAZON CUSTOMER SERVICE before writing this to get their feedback if it was appropriate for me to write this review...Once they heard the details, they said of course go right ahead.
Our Wine Cooler arrived on time and was delivered according to our instructions-WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE whatsoever. The hardest things about the installation was #1, Taking off the "ENERGY COST LABEL stuck on the glass and #2, waiting the recommended couple of hours to let the unit settle in place before turning it on...So, GREAT SO FAR!
The Cooler came on right away and in short order (about an hour) was indeed at our desired temperatures in both of the independent compartments. We put in our bottles of wine and were delighted with the look and storage capacity as well as the unit being so quiet.
However the very next day I was struck by the appearance of a pool of water at the base of the unit... I opened up the door and sure enough inside the cabinet had collected water in the bottom in sufficient quantity that it was leaking out onto the floor.
I called the AMAZON FREE TECHINICAL SERVICE NUMBER, they in turn called the service number of the Manufacturer (I could have done that myself). Upon connecting to the manufacturer's person, their person took down my information and the problem and told me I should get an e mail response in 24 hours. Meanwhile what am I supposed to do with a leaking refrigerator? I wiped up the water for the time being of course.
The E mail did come the next day. It was a series of cell phone pictures with instructions that advised me to unscrew various interior surfaces, deal with a couple of wires and make sure a drain hole was not blocked. THen put everything back together.
Okay simple enough however something dawned on me.
THIS IS A 2 DAY OLD PRODUCT UNDER WARRANTEE, Why I am I being asked to be the repair person? Would not the more professional, if not AMAZON BRAND way of dealing with this would be to schedule a repair person that has some training...not me a mere consumer?
I was very upset with this approach at first. I decided I WAS NOT GOING TO TOUCH anything on the unit at all and I was going to call AMAZON CUSTOMER SERVICE to return it, period. I still had all the original packing. My wife loved the unit but we could not have the water problem of course.
The morning I got the e mail, I walked back to the unit disgusted, and low and behold, NO MORE WATER! Nothing inside and nothing on the floor ,even under the unit!
Okay we are keeping it as we were so delighted with its performance but as I mentioned in the beginning of this review I did call AMAZON CUSTOMER Service before I wrote this to let them know I am sure they would not have approved of this rather flippant response by the manufacturer. I should have at least been OFFERED the choice of do you want to send it back, schedule a service appointment, or do you think you can fix it with the attached instructions (probably not the best idea as someone untrained might hurt themselves)
Anyway I thought it best to leave this honest and factual account for future customers to help make their decision and to make them aware of the service policy of the manufacturer.
As I said in the beginning, the unit itself seems to be marvelous. Let's see how long it lasts, and I will post updates maybe about 4 months from now or sooner if anything takes a turn for the worse in the meantime.
