Exterior lighting: Fast response time
Unlike a standard incandescent bulb that actually takes time to light up, Vision LED lights illuminate instantly with an intense red light for stop/tail lights. That means when you brake, the vehicle behind you can react immediately. The instant-on capability of the Vision LED lights can actually reduce braking distance by up to 20 feet at 75 mph.
For back-up lighting, the brilliant 6000K bright white light immediately stands out and is perfect for cars with back-up cameras, by illuminating the view behind you.
First to market with proven street-legal exterior LEDs as a direct replacement for exterior incandescent bulbs. They are street-legal because their ground-breaking design allows the light beam to be focused exactly where it's needed, on the road.
Philips Vision LED: FAQ
What is the difference between Philips Vision LED and other LEDs?
Its groundbreaking design is what makes Vision LED stand out. Light output of an LED bulb is not necessarily related to the number of LEDs mounted on the bulb, but it is all about filament position. By mounting the LEDs in filament position, we get the maximum light output on where it needs to be, on the road. This filament position allows us to meet the light output of an incandescent bulb, thus make them street-legal. In addition, due to its design, the LEDs are extremely robust and shock- and moisture proof and capable of handling voltage surges without failure.
My LED doesn't light up after installation. Why does this happen and how can I solve this?
If your LED doesn't light up, its likely that you need to flip the LED.
Why does this happen?
Regular incandescent bulbs can draw current in either direction, there are no 'positive' or 'negative' sides on the bulb. The bulb will work regardless of which direction it is inserted. LED bulbs, however, only draw current in one direction. Basically, this situation can be compared to batteries that have a positive and negative side. So if the LEDs are inserted incorrectly, they will not work. The solution is to simply flip the LED!
Follow these steps to reverse the polarity:
1. Remove the LED from the socket.
2. Flip the LED.
3. Insert LED back into the socket.
4. Check to ensure the LED lights up.
After installation: I notice fast flash or dashboard errors about a failing bulb. What should I do?
Error messages appear because the LED bulb wattage is much lower than conventional bulbs, which can make an outage warning system unable to detect the bulb.
If your car has a dashboard error message, experiences fast flash or goes in limp mode upon installation of an LED bulb, you may consider to purchase and install a Philips Vision LED CAN-bus warning canceller solution.
The 5W CAN-bus is used for interior applications, and license plate lighting. The 21W CAN-bus is used for exterior applications.

But in both cases, it will only work one way. So if yours isn't working properly, flip it!
Looking at the 7443 socket from above,
If you have a standard socket, insert the bulb such that Philips Logo points up with the two ground contacts on the left.
If you have CK socket, insert the bulb such that Philips Logo points towards the two ground contacts:
I poked at the contacts with a multimeter and 12V power/ground a bunch of different ways and it's extremely interesting to note that you can short either the left two (standard grounds) or the bottom two (CK grounds), and the bulb still functions perfectly, as long as the shorted pins are both grounded.
I have mine working in 2015 Subaru Impreza, which uses CK wiring. It's obvious when you take the socket out of the enclosure because the back of the socket shows the single ground wire on one side of the socket.
I used Canon 40D in manual mode (fixed aperture, shutter speed, and ISO) and analyzed the luminosity of the wall reflection images using histogram function. Image came out generally dark, but I don't think that would make any difference.
Mean luminosity for each were:
Incandescent Tail: 1.47
Incandescent Brake: 4.69
Philips LED Tail: 1.36
Philips LED Brake: 3.03
So in my test, LED came out slightly dimmer overall. I don't think it's a big deal, though. And since my car is fairly new, the bulbs are new, too, and so I assume the incandescent bulbs would've gotten dimmer faster over time than the LEDs. And the instant ON nature of the LEDs are an added bonus, too.
Update 2015-12-08: I think the luminosity comparison is not really valid because incandescent bulbs outputs full spectrum, whereas LEDs only outputs red wavelength. Some of the non-red light will make it out, even though there is the red plastic lens filter, and that will affect the incandescent bulb's luminosity reading. In the end, I do not believe the incandescent bulbs are brighter than the LEDs as brake lights. The only thing that matters for me is that these LED bulbs meet the DOT requirement, and they're working great for me.
Bulbs do get hot as pointed out by another reviewer, but so do the regular halogen bulbs. I had one of each bulb installed and turned them on to compare the color and output differences. Bulbs were probably on for 2 minutes or less. I went to take the halogen out and felt the heat through the nitrile glove. Just want to point out the heat is not a flaw in this product as it is normal for all bulbs.
So far they look great and perform well. If any problems arise, review will be updated.
Not recommended for BMWs or any other car with small reflector/light-bulb cavity
Pictures: 1st BMW halogens; 2nd BMW with LEDs; 3rd & 4th Toyota 4Runner with LEDs (excellent result!)
+ about 10% to 25% brighter than oem type halogen
+ leb bulb construction is stout, it's solid and has some weight to it
+ light color is very close to pure white (6k per phillips website)
+ "12 year lifetime guarantee" should last longer than the rest of my car - you have to go to the phillips website to register within 30 days of purchase.
- the price is not that great, at about $11/bulb or $22 for the set, the only reason i purchased these leds was that i was issued a coupon at local car parts store, otherwise i would have spent the same money and tried the higher wattage and higher lumens leds, ones rated at 7.5 watts / 500+ lumens.
- the lumens output is fairly low at an estimated / unconfirmed 200 lumens
- while the bulbs seem brighter, the broadcast pattern seems to be a bit more narrow than halogens. this is most likely preference. if you like your reverse lights more of a "spot light" beam pattern, these bulbs are great. if you prefer your reverse lights more of a "flood light" scattered beam pattern, you may not like them (see my photo).
