This light, like all LEDS that I have tried to date, is a mixture of success and failure.

The best thing about this is the color temperature is very warm, the closest to a halogen that I've seen from any LED.

The dimming function works, and while I didn't check with philips' list of 'leading' dimmers, if Elco isnt on the list then its bogus because they are industry standard cans. The problem with the dimming is twofold it supposedly dims to 10%, but the 10% of this light bulb is a whole lot brighter than the 10% on my analog halogens. Still, the color temp at that level is still better than any other LED I've tried in this format.

However, the deal-killer, which will result in these lamps being relegated to basement duty, is the WHINE! yes the high pitched whine that sounds like a computer fan coming from the unit when its dimmed below full power. Totally kills the mood. I put one of these in my bedroom to test it and when everything had settled down in the evening, I kept hearing something annoying that I thought was outside- and I spent 10 minutes running around like a nutter until I realized that it was coming from this bulb.

Also like most LED that supposedly replace halogens, the dimensions are a bit off, resulting in a poor fit in the can no matter what. So for the price, I think this is a 2 star product.

Installed this bulb in my kitchen track lighting, and noticed that it makes an annoying buzzing sound. Finally called Philips to see if they'd ship me a replacement - to my surprise, they simply mailed me a check! No proof of purchase or anything! Wow, great service! Then I decided to take a look inside the bulb and see if I could figure out what was wrong (I'm an electrical engineer). There is a fan inside! It was really dirty inside (lots of air moving through such a small space), and having lived in our kitchen for a year, it was greasy dirt - not easily vacuumed. I cleaned it a bit, ran it with the guts hanging out, and confirmed that all the noise comes from the fan. I'd guess it was buzzing all along, and it only started annoying me once I noticed it once.. So I moved it to my basement track lighting (less picky there). In summary, I don't like the noise it makes - I want lights to be seen and not heard. And this light, unlike other track lighting MR16 bulbs I have (even others from Philips) is the *only* one that has a fan and makes noise. I'd avoid it next time. But what great customer service!

If you have MR16 track lights (or any fixture that takes an MR16 style halogen bulb), this is the replacement that you are looking for.

The quality of light was BETTER than the halogen bulb it replaced, casting a nice even round glow, vs the noticeable pattern with hotspots from the halogen. The wide flood in particular gives a really useful diffuse light pattern that is perfect for area lighting. (Use the regular flood or spotlight version of this bulb if you want to focus on a specific object or artwork.)

The lights don't get hot, at all.

Best of all, after replacing 12 halogens with these, our electrical bill dropped by $80/month.

The 2700 deg color temperature and 470 lumens gives a very pleasing light. Good color rendition without being harsh.
They work very well with dimmers. The light goes where you want it as opposed to a CFL or halogen. LEDs like this are great for spots and floods. They are not cheap, but then you may never have to change the bulb ever again.

We like the light that comes from these bulbs, but since they are labelled as "dimmable", I was expecting that I could, well, dim them. With our switch, which worked fine on halogens, I can dim to about 90% brightness before they switch off. One other note is that the bottom sticks out below what our halogens did - it's not a problem with our fixtures, but it's worth noting. If you look at the light, the semi-clear bit is what sticks out beyond the normal halogen size.

I have purchased over a dozen MR-16 bulbs by all the brands at all the price points. I'm in search of a basic 12V 35W-50W halogen replacement that has good color rendition and is moderately dimmable.

These Philips bulbs don't cut it. Lighting rendition is okay. Brightness is decent. But they can't handle real dimming and they have a moderate flicker to them under movement.

We have seven of these lamps over a granite-top kitchen island. The spread, brightness, and color temperature are remarkably identical across all seven. They dim very nicely with no flickering, using a halogen fixture with transformer. I measured them with a color temperature meter and I have never seen LED lighting so consistent. They all came within 5 degrees of a perfect 2700K. It is true that the light hot-spots somewhat towards the center (which in our application looks extremely attractive). If you can tolerate some falloff away from center, the useful angle looks like about 45 degrees. Make sure that your lamp is not recessed in a baffle which is flagging or cutting the light off

I have tried a number of different MR16 LED lights. The color is nice and warm so good for a living room. Brings out the color of the hard-wood floors. But color maybe too warm for a kitchen. The LEDs are not designed to be installed in an airtight container so need to check the application. The LEDs also vary in brightness with the current dimmer - I have purchased a new dimmer and want to see how that works. Brightness overall equivalent or a little brighter than MR16 halogen. Very pricy $30 but the cheaper LEDs are either not as bright or the color is very blueish.
