Our son is almost 16 months old and we have been using these sippy cups for about 10 months now. We have never had them leak, mold, spouts push through or anything! I suggest reading the directions before tossing these sippy cups in the trash. I cannot get over how many parents assume that the Avent line is alot of "hype" just because they failed to read directions.

As for the complaints about mold and sour milk...that's just gross. Wash the sippy cup after it's used. I'm sure any other brand would get moldy and smelly if you left it in your trunk all summer...not Avent's fault!

Anyway, as for the green spouts being stiffer than the white ones and more difficult to clean...OK, maybe for the first few times because they are new; but they WILL get more pliable. I spoke to an Avent rep at the Baby Fair in Edison, NJ and she suggested buying new spouts every month or so (same for nipples with Avent bottles). They do wear out...especially if you're using the same two or three sippy cups every day.

I just bought (and tried) the "sport spout" and although it is quite a mouthful of liquid that comes out, our son has no problem with that spout, either. No leaks so far.

All in all, read the directions and you will see the leaks disappear like MAGIC! Good luck!

Well my baby boy is 12 months old now. He wouldn't drink from any bottle or sippy cup. He took one sip out of the 9oz Avent trainer cup and loved it. He laughed because, it met his teething needs. He has been teething and places an enfasis on chewing everything. He was nursed, but only used Avent bottles when needed.

This is the only kind of trainer/sippy we use in our house. We started with the soft-spout 5oz ones; my son, now 2.5, was breastfed and refused a bottle. We introduced a cup around 6 months and this was the only one he would use (initially with the valve off to help him 'get' the concept). Later, we added the valve to make them leakproof (we've never had problems with leaks). We switched to the larger 9 oz "toddler" cups with the harder spout when he was around 12 months or so, mostly because we were happy with the Avent infant trainers we had been using and we could inerchange parts with them; they are pretty much the same (save for the size and a hard plastic spout vs a softer rubbery one). I do prefer the updated valve design. The first ones we bought feature a 2 part valve system that snaps into the spout, while the updated ones feature a 1 part valve system. They seem to function the same, with the newer ones having 1 less part, which is good. I'm not sure they even sell the older design anymore. I also ditched the handles pretty early on as they weren't necessary. They were good to have when he was first learning to hold a cup, but we haven't really used them much after that. They just got in the way, particularly when carrying the cup in the bottle pocket of a diaper bag. The handles are easliy removable. I find these cups to be very easy to clean (we usually toss ours in the dishwasher, valves & spouts going into a basket to keep them together). I much prefer them over the straw-sippys for that reason. They are kind of boring, but we try to stay away from licensed character stuff anyway so not an issue here. I am also pleased to find that these cups are BPA-free.

Based on other reviews I was skeptical about buying these cups, and because of thoses reviews I didn't. Recently I was in a pinch and forgot my daughters cup at home and ran in to a store and grabbed these. The cups I bought have a hard spout, one piece valve design and the handles aren't detachable. The one star reviews on this product must be based on an old design or a soft spout. I find these cups to be pretty superior to other spout cups we've used. The spout is long and slender and my daughter is able to drink from it with ease. She is able to get fluid out easily and we've had no issues with leaks. The only thing I find mildly annoying is the spout lid. It does come in handy to keep the spout clean in the diaper bag and when it's flung on the floor or in the car but sometimes it gets in the way. Other than that I think this cup is wonderful, and I can remove the spout lid if needed. Give the new design a try and you won't be disappointed. These cups can also be found cheaper elsewhere so shop around.

Great bottles when used with nipples, terrible design with the sippy cup attachment. Valves are super tough to remove for cleaning, and they always are being cleaned. I recommend the First Years Clean & Simple, valve free! sippy cups. They don't offer them on Babies R Us online but the do have them in the store. They have them in 3 sizes , with handles and they don't leak! EVER! When making the purchase do it right the first time. Not like me 4 sets later :o(

These sippy cups were great...the only ones that my youngest daughter really seemed to take up with. However, the ones I received were not the cute ones in the picture with the bunnies on them....just a standard blue and orange. Would have liked them better if they looked like the ones in the picture. But they work great, so no complaints!
