I have gone through several baby monitors. I use them with my 30 year old disabled daughter. My biggest issue has been background noise. This is the BEST monitor I have ever used! No noise interference. In fact when her music is playing it does not even pick up. It just picks up when she makes a noise.

I LOVE this monitor and highly recommend it. My husband even uses it out in our detached garage...which would be like from a neighbors house and he says he can hear her perfectly! So I now this Spring I will be able to go out and do yard work knowing that if she needs me, I can hear her.

This would be a perfect gift for a new parent or for a disabled caregiver.

Great price for all the options it offers

This is my 3rd unit of this monitor and not because the 2 previous broke but due to the fact I have 3 kids (ages 4, 3 and almost 1) all in their own rooms.

PROS:
•it has a two-way feature that allows you to speak to your kid. This has helped settle both of my older kids, letting them know I'm on my way up to them (our master is on the main level with them on the second floor)
•it shows the temperature for each room. This was a must because 1 of the rooms gets really cold in the winter (even allows you to set an alarm to notify if the Temps go to high or low)
•you can adjust the level for volume along with how sensitive the monitor is to picking up the sound.
• comes with a lanyard so you can wear it like a fashion accessory....
•I was able to bring it out front without any problems (this was nice when they all napped but those days are long gone)
•clear sound and no static!

CON:
• having 3 of these monitors takes up precious space on my night side table

These monitors were over $100 when I bought my first unit in 2011 (and it's still going strong). I decided on this unit for $85 instead of the newer one for 100 because I was familiar and didn't think the upgrade to the parent unit was worth it. I love that my parent unit plugs right into the power source.

We knew because we have samsung smart cams recording for nanny cam

This is our second audio monitor. The first was a rather cheap one from babies r us. It actually shut off a few times in the night and our babies cried without us hearing. We knew because we have samsung smart cams recording for nanny cam. Even when we bought this monitor we kept doors open out of fear it would happen again. Now that we have had it awhile we close the doors and feel secure the monitor will not shut off on it's own. Do be aware that it has a mute setting, though, so don't turn that on by accident.

The sound quality is good. I hear much more than I did with babies r us monitor. And the temperature is very handy so we know it's gotten cold and to check babies haven't kicked off their blankets.

I took one star off because the flashing lights are way too bright. However we fixed easily by duct taping over them. Otherwise the screen does not glow unless you press a button so it stays pretty dark. It does beep if it loses contact with the base in the nursery too which I like. Overall very happy with the purchase.

Here's my quick n dirty one year review. No complaints about the functionality and range of this monitor, both have been great over the course of one year of pretty much daily use. And after a year I'd expect rechargeable batteries to begin to tire, which is what started happening last month. So what I do find annoying and therefore docking this product one star is the proprietary Philips battery pack that is required, and no less isn't available on Amazon for this model monitor. Instead I had to order it from Philips Compass for an absurd $26 with shipping. If this too will annoy you a year in when you need to replace your battery pack for $26, then I'd suggest going with another monitor right from the start. Don't fall for the Amazon "people bought these items together" link on the AAA battery pack product that they do carry by Cameron, it's not the right size and you'll need to send it back. This monitor requires AA equivalent size battery pack.

Great monitor for more than babies!

We have not used this for a baby, but after my mother's heart surgery it allowed us to hear her whenever she needed help. Then again when she broke her leg. It offers clear reception from one side of a large house to the other through 6 walls and around 150 feet, and around a lot of electronic equipment. The battery easily last all night. The monitor is very sensitive and picks up the tiniest noise easily which helps you feel comfortable that you're not missing anything.

Awesome for camping!

it's exactly what I needed! I was looking for a monitor I could bring to our cabin or camping where there is no power and needed a monitor where both parts ran off battery. So the part that I'll carry (parent one) is a rechargeable battery but it says it lasts 18hrs so I plan on buying an extra rechargeable battery and just making sure I turn it off at night. The part that stays with the baby uses 4 double A batteries. Best part, that can also plug in! If you're looking for a monitor that can go further distances too this ones great! I attached a photo of how far I walked away from my house to test it out and it was very clear still through a dip and some trees. THis monitor is great!!

Update! I've now had the mo it or for a few months and am SO happy I bought it. So worth the money. The rechargeable battery lasts forever (two days worth or naps and sleeping)

Fine while working but died after only 8 months

This is a fine unit while it works. Especially the sensitivity function is great as it allows you to ignore happy mumbles or sighs (which can be filtered out) but still ensures that you will hear it if your little one is seriously unhappy. Temperature monitoring is pretty nice, too, although our amazing ecobee thermostat already takes care of that.

So why only 2 stars? Because the unit stopped working after only 8 months! For the past three months, the batteries were not holding a charge already, which was quite annoying as we always had to plug the monitor in. Today, however, the monitor just died. I'll reach out to Philips in the morning hoping that their customer service is better than the product we received.
