UPDATE: I just received four bulbs today (12/28), after Amazon was out of stock for most of the holidays. All four were of the latest version, so it appears that the older version is sold out. Even though the description is not updated to reflect the changes in the latest version, one can reasonably expect to get the newest updated bulb when ordering now. I called Philips a while ago about this and they were reluctant to discuss the newer version. I guess they wanted to help their retailers sell through the old version before they publicized the improved version. At any rate, I'm more than satisfied with the bulbs. I have eighteen now and they have always worked flawlessly. I have several outdoors which have coped with below zero temps just fine. Note that the more bulbs you have, the greater the range of their network as each bulb acts as a range extender. I have some outdoors quite a distance from the hub they never lose connection. They work great with the Echo. Without it, a lot of the convenience is lost. At night, I can ask Alexa to turn them all off, and within a few seconds they all go out, group by group.
Amazon's price on these bulbs has varied since the end of December anywhere from $50 to $80 for two, except when you order the Easy-to-open Packaging, which was consistently $29.99 until recently when they sold out of that option. And they still have not updated the description as of 2/10/17 to reflect the new specs. It would appear they are price gouging on the high demand for the bulbs. There may be another reason, but it doesn't make sense that the price of these bulbs should vary daily like airfares. You can get them other places for the standard price of $29.99 for two.
This past week I purchased the Philips Hue Starter Kit. It came with two of these A19 bulbs. Connection was very simple, as many of you reading this review already know. I figured you are reading this review because you are looking for replacement or additional bulbs for a Hue bridge you already own.
Since purchasing the starter kit, I bought 4 more additional bulbs. They are the same exact bulbs that come with the version 2.0 Hub. They also connect just as easily to the Philips Hue app.
Once you have the Hue Bridge in your home, adding bulbs is as easy as screwing them into your lamp socket and then having the Philips Bridge automatically detect their presence.
These lamps are capable of dimming with voice commands given to Amazon Echo/Dot or Siri Home Kit. At least, these are the three devices I have tested these bulbs with to date. The maximum lighting output is about 60 watts. I wish that these bulbs could be brighter, but they are sufficient enough to light a small dark room.
I think adding these bulbs to your home automated system is much easier than using a TP-LINK outlet. I prefer to simply screw in a bulb and let the bridge (which can handle up to 50 lights) do the rest. It just works perfectly out of the box.
Highly recommend this product once you purchase the starter kit. It really makes automating the lighting in your home so much easier!
The max power usage is 9 watts, but they use much less wattage when dimmed. We used a Kil-O-Watt meter to confirm that.
Having these bulbs helps us dim our lights after dark, and the warm hue, and lack of bright blue hues, has allowed us to sleep better. Plus, the house looks great at night.
The bulbs seem to be highly reliable. I love their hue and dimmability.
We also control them, sometimes, via an Amazon Alexa, or via a Hue Tap switch (physical switch).
