Aside from my that shortcoming, the bulb is fine, but the entire product line maxes out at 850 lumens. Now who runs 60W lamps in the entire house?? ( I thought I was getting 850 lum, but again, misread).
Anyway, this thing is on it's way back to Amazon. I'm going to stick with Bluetootooth or Wifi wall switches & receptacles. Leviton is better at this without Lutron prices, although not as slick. Ultimately, I want to avoid proprietrary hubs--it's doable but comes with some limitations.
I tried to use it before got frustrated and gave up. This time I sat down proper and read the instructions and everything. I still haven’t been able to get it to work.
First of all the instructions are about 9 pages and the only thing it says is “1. Power on Light source 2. Download Hue app and follow the instructions”
That’s literally the extent of the paper instructions.
I downloaded the app. All it keeps telling me is it can’t find hub. That’s it. I can’t do anything else. I never even seen this hub before! I don’t think I ever received one. So I look up how much a new hub cost, $60?! No thank you.
No alternative instructions for using it just with the Alexa or anything.
This has been a complete and utter waste of my time and $20. I don’t think I’ve ever given a 1 star review before but this, this deserves it.
As for the integration with Alexa on an Echo Plus, these are okay, but not great. You still need a Hue Bridge to enjoy the full capability of these bulbs; that's lame. It feels like a bait-and-switch deal where you get just a taste but still feel like you should buy the Hue Bridge to get the full capability from these bulbs.
Regarding just the bulbs, I like them; their color temperature variation capability coupled with brightness variation satisfies pretty much all realistic needs I might want from a light bulb in my living environment. While the full color bulbs are cool in concept, I really don't see myself ever taking advantage of such capability; these are all I'd really want or need. The only downside is that they don't get as bright as I'd like. I replaced some existing non-dimming LED bulbs that were significantly brighter than these, and I do miss how much brighter they made my room when I wanted it.
1: Tap the Smart Home icon on the lower right corner of the screen
2: Tap the "+" icon in the top right corner of the screen
3: Select Add Device (this takes you to the SETUP screen)
4: Tap the ? icon on the top right, which takes you to a HELP screen
5: Scroll down to the bottom of the page, tap "here" in the following sentence: "Access pairing instructions for common Zigbee devices here" which takes you to another HELP screen (untitled, connection help?)
6: Scroll down to "RESET PHILIPS HUE LIGHT"
7: Enter the serial number of the bulb to reset
8: Tap Continue, you will see a dialog asking if the light is turned on.
You should see the bulb flash off briefly. Apparently, there is no error message if you do not get the serial number right, so double check the serial number and try again if there is no response at all.
The first time you reset the bulb, the scan will find nothing. At that point you can get back to the connection HELP page with the Hue reset command by tapping the "Get help connecting" button. Repeat the same step - at this time the bulb flash off briefly a few times by different colors and after that the scan will find the bulb and the bulb would work as new one.
