I spent over an hour experimenting with different locations for this and rescanning all the channels in my 42" HDTV. Like the instructions said, by the window, or in my case the window ledge, was the best location. I started out by placing the unit behind the TV, but it wouldn't pick up all the stations. So, I moved it to the window ledge and tried different positions along the ledge.
Leave the antennas in the vertical position. Move the unit along the window for the best reception. Scan your HDTV with every new movement of the unit. Even the smallest change in location adds or loses channels. Depending on the location along the window, I got a minimum of 22 digital channels to a maximum of 41 channels. My best location turned out to be to one side rather than in the middle of the window.
I live on the Space Coast, about 45 miles from Orlando, from where the majority of the TV stations broadcast. I have a couple of stations in Daytona Beach and Melbourne too. I'm very happy with this unit and I just ordered a second unit for the bedroom TV. As long as I can get my local (Orlando) channels for news and weather, I'm a happy camper. For 15.00, you really can't beat this if you don't want to fool with a rooftop antenna.
The bottom line, get this unit and any other indoor TV antenna away from your TV which, is a mini-transmitter in it's own right giving off short range "RFI" and can interfere with any indoor antenna's ability to pick up those "line-of-sight" TV signals and, get it as close to a window or non metal exterior wall. One can add an extention cable to the indoor antennas short cable if needed and, watch your channel scan numbers and signal strengh vastly improve as well as the reviews. :-)
