The SHE3590's used to be called the SHE3580's, with the only difference being the available colors. These carry the very same dynamic drivers as the 3580's. Before I discovered these on head-fi dot org, for me the very best budget headphone was the Monoprice 8320. The thing with the Monoprice 8320 is despite the $3.00-8.00 price point, the comfort level of these nautilus shelled monstrosities is very challenging. While the sound is crisp, clear, and dynamic, they take replacing the stock tips, the fit is debateable, and the bass is very detailed but lacks any heft or boom. The Philips SHE3590's on the other hand deliver crisp, clear, balanced sound, with bass that reaches deep, but never bloats or bleeds into the mids, and still allows the mids and highs to maintain clarity and sparkle. The drivers are small, and the housings are as small or smaller than the champs of comfort, the Sennheiser CX 300II's, while delivering sound that simply kicks the CX 300II's all over the yard, and at a price that's about $40-50 LESS!! When you put this all together, and simply purchase a headphone clip that costs maybe $1.00 or less, to control any microphonics that might be annoying (honestly I used my sennheiser clip, but the microphonics from the cheap wire isn't that bad, and I could just as well go without the clip, but some people are just picky or overbearing) from the relatively thin wire. Isolation is average, but definitely works to block out most noise, but allows you to hear important noises. Add it all up, and you simply have THE VERY BEST budget headphones in the UNIVERSE! You simply cannot beat the depth of dynamics and clarity with bass delivery in these headphones, and find it at this price. These are the sound kings of the budget world, and I'm very happy to have a pair.

I am a musician and an audio professional. I own a $1200. pair of UltimateEars monitors for stage, the ones that are custom molded to your ears. When I got them I thought I would have the ultimate iPod phones as well, but no. I think the pro ears are more flat for better stage use, and for longer sessions of stage use so as to not tire the ears. But they were not that great IMO for iPod listening. I then heard about a set made by M-Audio that were supposed to be better for iPods, at about $300., but I took them back after about a week. I then found the $15.00 Sony buds which seemed to crush the professional models for iPod use. But I hated the high end, as the cymbals and high voice register were kind of tinny, but I thought for 15 bucks, they were still much better. Well..I lost my Sony's recently, and went to get another pair. The store had a sale on the Philips 3590's for $10. so I thought, why not try them? I was so pleasantly surprised as I heard the much truer highs of these phones, along with plenty of bass when positioned properly in the ear. This is why molded are so good, they literally screw into your ear for maximum pressure against the eardrum and proper positioning. It is important with these one-size-fits-all plugs to make sure you get them into the ear properly to convey maximum bass.
I have seen a number of reviews on these Philips 3590 phones which consider them to be top dog among low price plugs. I haven't tried all brands of course, but feel that I have a pretty qualified opinion to agree that these are really quite exceptional for the price, and for me, beat the professional models by a mile for iPod listening.

I bought a pair of these earbuds a year or so back, and they were wonderful -- good fit, good sound, clear lows and highs.

Recently I ordered two more pairs identical to the first, and there was no bass response whatsoever. The sound is worse than listening to music from my smartphone's speaker. Even audiobooks and NPR sound unpleasant unless I EQ them heavily. Not only that, the fit is no longer tight in my ear, either, even after having swapped among the different sized silicone caps the earbuds ship with.

I don't know what happened to the product, but be warned, it isn't the same 4+ star product that the past reviews suggest.

I bought these at the recommendation of a head-fi.org member, and I do not regret my decision. While the stock tips bullock, and the sound stage that I can tell is lacking in depth, they make up for it with amazing speed and bass response. They are currently the only pair of IEMs that I own that have not tripped all over the bass in the song "atomic" by the artist "she", plus they are comfortable to boot, unlike the monoprice 8320 IEMs. To make the best of them I advise to use different ear silicones so that you can get a proper seal.

These are well balanced "general listening" earbuds that will blow "skullcandy", "beats by dre", and sennheiser CX300II's right out of the water for sure. Before you think of dropping some serious cash on an expensive pair of earbuds to upgrade from your mp3 player of phone's stock ones, please consider these worth a try.

In three words: lush, detailed, fun.

I am a bit of an audiophile, so trust me when I say that these things are a ridiculously good bargain. The clarity, detail, resolution, accuracy, everything about these headphones is incredible. There are people out there who will buy dozens, hundreds of pairs of earbuds, listening for the needle in the haystack... well, here it is. I own a pair of $300 earbuds and the difference between these two is subtle.

As for the sound itself, they're mixed to be very fun headphones. The highs are enough to highlight the amount of detail these things bring out, never fatiguing; the midrange is lush and engaging, yet forgiving for lower-quality recordings. The lows make you feel like Philips has stuffed a well-tuned subwoofer into these things, they get LOW but at the same time the bass is exactly where it needs to be.

I can't emphasize this enough, these things are the diamond in the rough. I have fairly discerning ears and this is one of my favorite pairs of headphones.
