I owned/used/abused the previous model for more than 6 years and man did it take a beating. It worked flawlessly until the little volume controller broke open and one of the wires broke off. I decided not to bother trying to fix it so i found this set and purchased it. Aside from looking cool and good price, they looked even sturdier than the last model headphones (including the volume controller). They fit comfortably, cover your ears completely and are not too tight. Good, full, clean sound (better if you can tweak it), and very loud. I Use them primarily for games, as you can hear the smallest of sounds. Good for watching TV privately if you really need to (although the cord gets in the way). Owned them for 1-1/2 years so far and not a scratch. For the price its a must have.

I am very happy with these headphones. I use them primarily for watching TV, and the long cord and inline volume control makes them well-suited for the job. They are also very comfortable and the audio quality is good.

The only downside is that the included 1/4" adapter was flaky and made the audio crackle, but I already had one. I would still say that for the price there is none better, so these headphones get 5 stars.

PS. Like other reviews said, the description is wrong. It does not come with an extension cord, but just one long one.

This product is exactly as described, but more than that, it is PERFECT for what we needed. It is lightweight and comfortable to wear, and the volume control works to solve our particular problem.

The Philips SHP2500 Headphones sound great...period. The $20.00 price tag make them even more of a stand-out. When listening to familiar cd's, right away I noticed rich deep base that wasn't there with my mini phones. And after about three hours of listening over several nights, the highs became noticeably extended, must be due to a break-in period.

I wore these full size phones for about an hour per sitting and never had the urge to take them off to give my ears a rest, they are very comfortable; the earshells toggle up/down to match individual head shape, and the fabric covered earpads can rotate to match ear angle. Although these are comfortable to the ear area, it would be an improvement if they, or you added some padding to the plastic part that contacts the top of your head. Assuming you have the volume down low enough, you can still hear the phone ringing or the door bell. The line cord volume control is convenient. I gifted a pair of these to a rap music lover and the observation made was that the maxumum volume isn't as loud as the phones these replaced. I noticed the same difference between these and my mini phones. This is a good thing for anyone who cares about long term hearing loss due to excessively loud listening levels. I was researching expensive earbuds, now I can spend the savings on something else. Thanks Philips.

These headphones work, but they don't block out other sound going on around you (I'm using them now, but can still hear my DH talking on the phone). I bought these so I could watch tv while DH is watching something else on another tv; and while the headphones work, I can still hear the other tv (and not because the other tv is loud cuz he usually has the volume low).

When I first plugged these into the tv, I didn't think they worked because I couldn't hear anything; I turned the volume of the tv up and finally heard the tv thru the headphones. This tv that I'm using the headphones with is 4 months old, but I have to turn the volume up to full blast on the tv before I can hear it thru the headphones. So I don't think there's an issue with the tv cuz it works well ......... Occasionally, I lose sound with the headphones ........ it's a short period of time, but it's happened several times. I move the wires around that are connected to the ear pieces and the sounds comes back. This is the primary reason I'm giving these headphones 4 stars instead of 5 stars. While not expensive, they cost enough money that the sound shouldn't short out.

Also, after wearing the headphones for an hour or two, my ears hurt ................ I think it's because I wear glasses and there's pressure on my ears & glasses from the headphones ............ not a fault of the product, but it does keep me from wearing them too long.

I like the long cord that is on the headphones --- gives me lots of freedom to move around while watching tv & wearing the headphones.

While these headphones, aren't perfect, I'm keeping them.

These are the best WIRED headphones (that I've found so far) for TV for those hard of hearing. I have to turn down the bass. I have high frequency loss (85%). They aren't perfect but I can hear all the words being said and trust me, that says a lot. Was so tired of buying and relplacing batteries on my wireless set that I love.

This is the second set of these earphones I've had. I bought my first pair about five years ago and have used them constantly for gaming and watching movies from the couch, which is about 12 feet from the TV. The long cord is fantastic and for me, works so much better (and more economically) than wireless headphones, I like ear-covering headphones and these were my very favorite. Then I sat on them (several times) and broke the left earpiece off the arch. Glued it back together and got another six or eight months out of them before the glue gave out. I figured they would be discontinued by now and was delighted to find a new pair here. They are wonderful. Independent volume control and something like 18 feet of cord! The arch does loosen a bit over time, but they are generally sturdy and the sound is clean. I may just get a back-up pair for when I sit on these once too often. Recommended!
