Philips Sonicare Essence Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush Features
Gently Cleans Teeth with Sonic Technology
Removing up to two times more plaque than a manual toothbrush, the Philips Sonicare Essence Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush uses powerful Sonic technology to clean teeth with up to 31,000 strokes per minute. These sweeping motions drive fluids deep into the tight spaces between your teeth and along your gum line, resulting in a cleaner, healthier mouth. The Essence is gentle enough to use on veneers, braces, implants, and sensitive teeth.
Contoured Bristles and Soft-Grip Handle for Comfort
With smooth, contoured bristles that correspond to the natural shape of your teeth, this Sonicare toothbrush delivers a thorough, comfortable brushing experience. Its angled neck provides optimal reach for the bristles, which have extra-soft rounded ends that go deep between teeth to remove plaque and reduce gingivitis. The blue soft -touch grip makes the handle easy to hold and maneuver while brushing.
Easy-Start and Smartimer Simplify Brushing
You need only to apply light pressure when guiding this toothbrush over your teeth--the Essence will do the work for you through its high speed bristle motion and dynamic cleaning action. The easy-start option gently increases the toothbrush's power over the first 12 uses to help you adjust to using a power toothbrush. The Smartimer feature sets brushing time to two minutes, the time recommended by dental professionals, and shuts the toothbrush off after that cycle.
Two Weeks of Power on a Single Charge
Because the Essence can last up to two weeks between charges, you can leave its charger at home for your travels. A soft travel case and hygienic travel cap are included for convenience. An indicator on the brush displays remaining battery life and blinks when you need to recharge. The Philips Sonicare Essence is backed by a full 2-year warranty and a 90-day money-back guarantee.

Top Customer Reviews
Should you get a Sonicare? Yes. Without a doubt.
This particular unit, the HX5610/01, is actually my 2nd Sonicare. It's what I will call the 'basic' model and I consider my 'weekend house' toothbrush. I also have the Philips Sonicare HX6732/02 HealthyWhite R732 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, a 'deluxe' version, that I consider my day-to-day Sonicare. Both units are the crème of the crop tools when it comes to cleaning teeth. What sets the 'basic' model apart from my 'deluxe' Sonicare is seemingly minor, but is worth mentioning. To appreciate the difference, you have to know how you use the brush.
To properly use Sonicare, you use it for 2 minutes. Exactly 2 minutes. 30 seconds on the top teeth on the outside, 30 second on the top teeth on the inside of your mouth, 30 seconds on the bottom teeth on the outside, and finally 30 seconds on the bottom teeth on the inside of your mouth.
The 'deluxe' model has a small 'beep' every 30 seconds to keep you on track. The 'basic' model has no beep, no cues to keep you moving along. It seems minor, and in the scheme of life, it is. It's just that I really find my self *wanting* that feature on the 'basic' model. It's just not there. This seems like a fairly arbitrary omission on Philips' part. This omission is the only reason I have given this brush 4 stars instead of 5.
There are some cosmetic differences between the 2 units. The 'basic' unit is heavier than the 'deluxe' model. Lastly, you can't share brush heads between these 2 units because they have different connectors at the base of the brush heads.
I prefer the more expensive model, but for double the price, I'm not sure its 'must-have' feature I find so valuable in the more expensive model should sway you to the more expensive version. You may not miss it at all. Especially if I hadn't told you about it. Sorry about that.
1. unscrew the top
2. rinse the handle
3. place handle on base
4. pop off the brush
5. rinse the screwy thing and the brush
6. pop brush back into the screwy thing
7. place the brush onto the handle (don't screw it back on, just place it on top) such that it's tilted, allowing the insides to air out
This whole process takes like 12 seconds and costs about a tenth of a calorie, so don't even worry about it.
The other thing people complain about is that this brush doesn't beep every 30 seconds or whatever, but that's also a non-issue. You're unable to brush your teeth if you don't know whether 30 seconds have passed? I don't think so. I think you CAN do it. Just believe in yourself.
The unit is solid, very straightforward, and gets the job done. My last dentist visit was significantly better than when I was using a regular brush (of course, YMMV depending on your oral hygiene). It's hard to imagine needing another electric brush. It's also good for traveling; for trips shorter than 2 weeks, you don't even need the base, because the battery lasts about 2 weeks. Lastly, if you have sensitive teeth, you can buy sensitive replacement head assembly thingies (whatever they're called), which I've been using for the past month or so.
