I started hearing the stories from other Prius owners that the HID's were burning out early and sometimes at the same time while driving down the highway (scarey), and at first dealers were charging $800 per bulb (even more scarey). I was hoping mine wouldn't burn out, but guess what :-) I didn't even bother with the dealers, and I checked at Autozone and they wanted $176 each. Wow! I'm impressed that Amazon is almost 1/4 the price of even Autozone.

My first HID started going out at 54,000 miles. When they start to go they will go out for awhile, then come back on if you turn off and on the headlamp switch. It might go out one time a week, then it will be one time a day, then multiple times per day. So don't delay, if you have this intermittent issue you might as well get two of these and change them yourself. I bought 1 at a time, I replaced my passenger side first because my driver side didn't have any issues at that time. Seconds after I replaced the passenger side HID, I was standing in front of the Prius testing the new bulb, it looked great and bright, and I was happy, and wouldn't you know it, but the driver side flickered out right then. What timing! My Daughter laughed about that. So I should have just bought 2 of them at the same time and changed them both at the same time.

When I pulled out the old HID from my 2008 Prius, and put them side by side with the new HID, they were identical, same numbers, same Philips manufacturer. That was a pleasant surprise.

Don't remove the bumper, no matter what anyone tells you. All you need is a small mirror and a flashlight and a screwdriver, search youtube for "How to change your Prius HID bulb in 10 minutes (part 1)".

My headlight bulb on my '07 Lexus ES350 began blinking out about a year prior to getting this bulb. When I went to the Lexus dealer they told me that the bulb was about to go and it should be replaced. They quoted me a price close to $300 dollars. ($200 for the bulb plus labor) I thought that price was ridiculous and drove for a year with a headlight that went out every time after about 5 minutes of the light coming on. When I saw this bulb for this price I was hesitant about getting it but figured I'd give it a try. I read my car manual and decided to try changing it myself. I'm so glad I did. IT WAS THE EXACT SAME BULB THAT WAS FACTORY INSTALLED!!! It took me about 15 minutes to install the bulb and I saved myself $250 dollars...

The part number on the box clearly indicates that it is a 85122 bulb, yet the bulbs inside were 85122+. There is a difference between the two in terms of color temperature after the initial burn-in time. Standard 85122 bulbs will have more of a faint blue-white appearance once burned in whereas the 85122+ bulbs will stay more white / yellow.

Great bulb, great price, just not what I was looking for.

I ordered this product for my Lexus ES350. I bought the car used, and the left headlight went out. I had that replaced at the local dealership for ~$400-$500. My son was stopped by the police in NY on a recent family vacation driving my ES350 for the right headlight. He had to have it replaced with a record of either a mechanic or a receipt showing purchase of the product to prevent a ticket. To reduce the expense (!!!) I purchased it from Amazon and installed it. It worked just fine.

Here is some information on it from the following url "[...]". For your convenience, here are the instructions for replacing it from that website.

1. Remove the plastic HID socket cover by turning it counter-clockwise.

2. Remove the silver metal socket fitting attached to the braided cable by turning counter-clockwise about 45 degrees and pulling towards you.

3. There's a U-shaped set spring retainer that has kind of curled circle ends. This holds the bulb assembly in place by locking into notches on either side at roughly 11:00 & 1:00 on the housing. Pinch those two curled ends towards each other and pull them out and down to clear the notches and swing the retainer downward. This will release the bulb in the very center of the unit.

4. Pull the bulb out by it's base. It's about 3" long and comes straight out. Don't touch the glass if you intend to reuse the bulb.

5. The Toyota HID bulb is part # 90981-20024 (for my 2007 ES350).

6. Holding the new bulb by the base and without touching the glass, push the bulb back into the hole. There are notches & tabs in the base and mount that must match. Just rotate the bulb until it catches.

7.

This HID bulb is an exact match for my 2002 Lexus IS300 at a terrific price. It arrived 3 days after I ordered it. When my headlight bulb first burned out 3 years ago, the Lexus Service Department charged me $490.00 to replace the bulb ($395 for the bulb plus $95.00 labor). They informed me that if I bought the bulb myself next time, I would only have to pay for labor. Since then, Lexus dropped the price of the bulb to $295.00. I called them to let them know I would purchase the bulb myself this time, and asked them to confirm the bulb type and model. They informed me that they had no information on the bulb, which I thought was rather sleezy. Fortunately, I still had the invoice when they replaced the bulb 3 years ago. The invoice did not have the name of the bulb, just a long invoice number. I googled the invoice number, and it came up with the Philips HID bulb, which sells at 5Xs less than what Lexus currently charges, and 6Xs less than what they charged me 3 years ago. It is a perfect match to the original HID bulb in color and intensity.
