"White's engagement with these ideas is highly entertaining and illuminating, and he clearly adores the medium, delving into not just Civil War proper but the entire Marvel canon going back decades. ... As a comics fan using the medium to explore purely philosophical ideas... White is without peer." Michael Dudley, Winnipeg Free Press

An excellent book for comic book fans and those interested in philosophy more generally. White analyzes the conflict of Civil War through the eyes of Iron Man, Captain America, and Spider-Man. Even though the promotions for Civil War asked, "Whose side are you on?", White doesn't try to steer readers toward Cap's or Iron Man's side. Instead, he uses ethical systems like deontology and utilitarianism to explain how Cap and Iron Man reach their positions. Should be helpful to those who like to think in sophisticated ways about comics and for students of philosophy who need a good primer on ethics.
