Top customer reviews
Once I had a chance to take a break from the whole thing, I found a speaker and a receiver by Phorus and purchased two (2) speakers and one (1) receiver, totally happy with the way both work. Not only did I get what I wanted, I didn't have to spend to much money to get there.
They Phorus app is for Apple and Android which is awesome. Once you download the app you just connect the device and give it a name and that is it. I have done a lot of research on speakers, receivers, etc. and can genuinely say Phorus is a great product at a great price.
Once the Holidays are pasted I will order a couple more speakers, who knows maybe they will be discounted. Even if they are not it is still worth the $99.00 to get them.
Hope this reviews helps.
BUT, this is perfect for a non discerning ear. My roommate wanted tunes for their bathroom and bedroom. this thing is perfect for that.
It is: Airplay, Play-Fi, Bluetooth, aux audio input, and it has a mobile device stand all in one.
My gripe with some play-fi speakers is that not everyone likes play-fi, and there is limited ways to connect some play-fi speakers. With these, anyone who comes to my play and connects to my wifi, can just use one speaker at a time with Airplay. my roommate takes like an hour in their bathroom in the morning, and now they set their phone on the stand and airplay music in the morning. this bathroom is also the common/guest bathroom, When they arent around, I setup the whole house to play music. great for parties and stuff. Overall, its a nice little speaker that is usefull for small rooms that has a ton of connectivity options that make it worth it.
Within a few minutes, the speaker was connected to our home wireless network. Once connected, it could be controlled by either of our phones (both using the Phorus android app), our iPad using the Apple app or using iTunes, or our laptop PC using iTunes. The sound is great and fills our living area (an open kitchen + dining area + living room). It can be unplugged and moved easily, and automatically reconnects to your wireless network when it is turned on.
Using either of the apps to control the speaker allows you to play music loaded on your device, Pandora or Internet Radio stations. When playing music, you can select by artist, album or playlist. You can't shuffle any of these though, so it will always play them from the first song through in order. Some playlists are built to be played in order, but most of mine I like to shuffle through. Another minor downside of using the app is a delay between songs. This isn't noticed while shuffling or using Pandora or the Internet Radio stations. But if you are playing an album in order and the songs blend together, you'll hear about a one second delay between songs.
Using iTunes from either our iPad or laptop works by just selecting the PS1 as the iPlay speaker. Using iTunes, you can play anything just as you normally would in iTunes, including shuffle. So this is how I shuffle my playlists, when needed.
You can also connect to the PS1 using Bluetooth. This will allow you to stream any sound from your phone/tablet/laptop from any program. Using Bluetooth should also eliminate the delay between songs, but I haven't needed to try it yet. It also works with multiple speakers, but I haven't tested that yet since I only have one unit. But when connecting with the app, you pick a primary speaker and then it asks you what other speakers you want to use; if I had any other units, I expect it would be as simple as clicking on them to get more speakers streaming.
We've had the unit for a couple of months now and used it almost every day, streaming our own music and various Pandora stations. It has been great, and when we're ready to have another speaker, we'll definitely be getting another PS1.
