The left earbud quit working after two weeks. I could get a few seconds of sound by very gently pushing or pulling the cable where it enters the earbud, suggesting weak wiring. I wore these while running using the clip to secure it to my shirt. The cable had plenty of slack and was not pulled tight, even when I turned my head. The only force on the cable was weight of the cable itself, bouncing slightly as I ran. I wore them during 5 runs, about 8 hours total.
I am replacing these with earbuds from another manufacturer, not because I think these are poorly manufactured, but because I found a competitor product with better ratings for sound quality and battery life at a similar price point. Otherwise, I would have purchased another pair. With a sample size of one, it's possible this is a well-designed and manufactured product, and I was simply unlucky, and received a rare defective pair. Nevertheless, I'm lowering my review to 2 stars to reflect my experience. If this is truly a great product, the average score will remain high and cancel out mine.
Fortunately, I was within Amazon's 30-day return policy. I did read the warranty terms in the user manual, however, which are stated as 90 days. As of this update (11/23/15), the Amazon product description states one year parts and labor warranty. FYI, something to be aware of.
I bought these for running. The sound is okay for earbuds. I have a $15-20 pair of MEElectronic corded earbuds, and their sound quality is noticeably better than this Photive model. I attribute the lower sound quality to Bluetooth, but mostly as a tradeoff to extend battery life, because great bass is energy intensive. Sound quality is very good at lower volumes, but the lack of fidelity is very apparent at higher volumes. The microphone quality is not as good as Apple earbuds, but better than the MEElectronic. Microphone quality is sufficient for phone calls. You wouldn't want to use these for making videos or high quality audio recordings, but the person on the other end of a phone call will be able to understand you, and for Bluetooth earbuds, that's what counts.
The earbuds form a tight, noise isolating seal. This is great in most listening situations, but when running, you need some outside sound to hear that car or truck coming up behind you. I also use them when mowing the lawn as noise reducing hearing protection, and they are excellent in that respect. I can listen to podcasts and understand voices clearly without having to turn up the volume very high to cover the engine noise.
Battery life is very good. I'm not sure if the battery is in the module with the charge port, buttons, and microphone, or in the ear pieces. Wherever it is, it's small, so six hours of claimed battery life is impressive. I don't blast the volume while running, and I haven't drained the battery between charges in the week I've had them, but the battery has lasted over 4 hours while showing more than 50% charge remaining. Only time will tell how long the battery can maintain such good performance. My last Bluetooth earbuds were a pair of Sony Ericsson purchased in 2006 or 2007. They had a NiMH battery, and the charge capacity dropped off quickly after a year. The Photives have a lithium ion polymer battery, so I hope they last at least 2-3 years.
The ear hooks felt odd at first. I adjusted after a few minutes, and they do hold the earbuds securely in place while running. I never have to push them back into place. In terms of fit, these are the best earbuds I've ever used. They come with 5 pairs of hooks. Two pairs like the hooks shown in the product picture (large and small), and three pairs of more minimalist, curved, comma-shaped hooks (small, medium, and large). There are three pairs of earbud fittings (small, medium, and large). Most people should be able to mix and match to find a secure, comfortable fit. Be aware you may get the best fit by using a different size in each ear. The cord connecting the earbuds can be shortened using the included folding clips. This improves stability while running. I also clip the cord to the collar of my shirt when running to reduce bounce.
So, in summary:
Pros: size, weight, secure fit even while running, multiple hooks and buds, battery life for the size.
Cons: sound quality at high volume, particularly bass
Second pair was awesome. Worked just about all the time, stayed charged through several days of heavy use, and never stuttered or skipped. They connected fast and stayed there. The biggest issue with these is that the volume control switch is closer to one side, and it pulls the cord down towards that ear. I'm constantly adjusting them for comfort, and they never stay put. I could handle everything bad about them really. I never even used the rubber things to make them stay. They were secure enough without them.
After finding those in my washing machine and angrily kicking a door, I ordered my third pair. Can't wait!
They work fine on my phone, but that is not the reason I bought them.
1: Pairing is easy.
2: Stays in your ear.
1: Drivers seem to be crap.(if someone finds a way to fix this issue, please let me know and I'll update this).
2: Their website support has no drivers for download.
3. Hard to get the little rubber things in the right spot
4. Sound quality. I don't use earbuds very often so the sound quality might be average, but to me they sound completely awful.
They are not very comfortable. I have tried multiple variations with all the ear adapters come with the head sets and I cannot find a setup that suits me.
On the plus side they do sound good and have a quality build to them.
