First, the documentation is nicely done. It is easy to understand. The setup was a breeze. Just load the CD that comes with it, and it will install all the software for viewing and capturing your negatives or slides.
Using the product is straightforward. You load either slides or negatives into one of the two holders provided. Then you manually push the holder into the front of the device. You get to see what the result will be before you save it to your hard disk.
The device is USB powered, and Windows 7 recognized it and installed drivers. Not one problem. I think the CD also has drivers, but all I care about is that it works.
The quality of the B&W negatives is outstanding. Very crisp. The software gives you quite a few options regarding quality and film type. No complaints at all from me. I have thousands of slides and negatives to look at, so this will take a while. The unit seems to me to be fast enough. I do use Photoshop, Fireworks and Corel for photo editing, but the software that comes with the device seems more than adequate for many editing needs.
So, I have no qualms in recommending this scanner. It works, and from what I can tell, it will work for years to come.
