Seriously...for me to put that up there with Love Jones (my #1 movie and soundtrack of all time) is for real business. It was beautiful to see Issa Rae in a non-comedic role, yet still kept it funny when needed. I love and appreciate the transitions through the past and present. Lakeith Stanfield = DOPENESS. In terms of acting, he reminds me of mixture of a couple of my favs: Morris Chestnut (everyday dude moments)+ Terrence Howard (swagger, direct, chill vibe)+ Yasiin Bey (THE VIBE MAN....THE VIBE!!!). Lil Rel Howery....NUFF SAID. Truly appreciated his character.
Absolutely loved the story line and flow. Like Love Jones, it captivated what a lot of us want and need...love in a true form. It's GREAT to be around to witness another positive love story that encompasses ALL aspects of our culture. I'd definitely leave it up there with Love Jones, The Brothers, Love & Basketball, Brown Sugar, etc. I'll stop there before this review becomes a dissertation (lol). Much respect to the writer/director. Looking forward to seeing more of her work in the future.
