Since there's no specific guide for the newer Canon S120, I bought this one to use with my Canon S120 - since the Canon documentation is seriously lacking. I would say everything in this book is 95% plus applicable to the Canon S120. The book is a GREAT help for my new S120. Its generally very well written and helps me to figure out settings I could never figure out with the supplied snf online Canon Documentation.

I was getting confused with the booklet that comes with the Powershot S110 and really wanted to understand all the camera had to offer. Alexander White's Photographer's Guide to the Canon PowerShot S110 is well written, well laid out by logical chapters (easy to refer back to) and thoroughly explains each and every clever feature of this powerful (upscale) point and shoot. He covers everything and explains it so even a novice like myself can understand. Thanks for a well-thought-out book.

This is a terrific book and well worth it.

This book is what I finally needed to truly understand and get to know my Canon S-110 after owning the camera for just over a year and not utilizing it's full capability despite my homework on various cameras within my budget. The truth is that I know very little about camera terms and techniques, but I'm an anxious learner.

Canon's standard issue online manufacturer guide that is included with your Canon S-110 camera purchase (cough, cough) is ok. As happens with 400+ page manuals, it's somewhat dry and concentrates on the physicality of the camera's function. Although the standard guide is helpful and unavoidable, you might eventually nod off by about page 14 of 400+ online pages. This particular book rises above and lets you in on further tips and techniques and includes the authors own photos using various settings and how and where to set them. Being a visual person, the addition of the author's authentic photos are a nice touch so you can follow along and see the differences in how you compose the shots. It's a great tutorial.

This publication differs from said owner's manual in that it's written in an easy to follow, friendly and likeable manner that is suitable for beginners, intermediate, and advanced users alike. It not only shows a Canon S-110 owner how, why, where and when to adjust your camera specific settings, but in possible circumstances showcases the different settings that may enhance your photos for the look and effect you wish to accomplish and how to easily get to those setting with the various menus, sub-menus, dials and buttons offered with this camera.

In this new age of buying products that no longer include a "User's Guide," I thank my lucky stars there are authors such as Alexander White who will not only write a user's manual, but who will write a "great" user's manual.

With the 300+ pages of the manual, I tried to read a few of them just to be able to do the basics (what is ISO Rate?). From the little I read, the manual explains the most contrived things but skims over everything else. The s110 is a power horse of a camera, and not using it to its full extend would be a shame.

Great ebook by Mr. White, explains everything. The tone is conversational, warm and factual at the same time, a great read! He also shares information on how he set up the s110 to get the best out of the camera, which helped me better visualize what I wanted to do with it. With all the screen icons the camera has, the pictures helped too. On just a few occasions things took a paragraph to explain, when a sentence might have sufficed. That did not take away the tiniest bit from the enjoyment of reading this book.

I have found that in Touch Shutter, following the manuals' recommendation to touch-and-hold the screen results in blurry pictures; when I touch and release immediately, camera takes a second to lock focus and pictures are sharp.

I am a photo fan but I never read the instructions that come with my cameras. They are so boring and with so tiny fonts. I found this book a VERY IMPORTANT GUIDE TO HAVE. As it explains in simple words the way to understand and use functions of the camera that I did not new existed. I am so happy that I am buying this book for the other models of cameras that I have. Missing to read this book means not knowing what you have in your hands when you buy a camera!!!

It is a must read!!!

Great point and shoot camera. I am able to shoot photos at night with the scene mode, without having to use my tripod. The camera is small and lightweight, but gives you excellent photos. Checking the images at 100% they are as sharp as with my Nikon DSLR. The thing that really sold me is I'm able to shoot and edit raw images. I would definitely recommend this camera to a friend.

This is a great book. Clearly written, with color photos of what you will see on the screen as you push the buttons. I had my Canon S110 for six months before discovering this book, and I wish it had come with the camera. Covers all the features of the 110, with good comments on the advantages of each. Discusses basics, but also macro shooting, raw quality, infrared photography, etc. Even tells where you can order an adapter to hold filters on the 110. Describes web sites about photography. A real book, 400 pages with a good index. A wealth of knowledge about the 110.
