The book lacks in some other areas. For example, there is very little discussion about tides, which is extremely important matter for photographing ocean coast. Another major omission is the subject of ephemeris and how to use them.
I had only one day to drive through the coast. The book was extremely valuable in helping prioritize where to go, and save time by driving right to the good spots. Thanks to this book I was able to take amazing pictures in Cannon Beach and other places.
Absolutely recommended for anyone visiting Oregon, even if you are not a photographer, this book is much better than any tourism guide I have seen.
The book starts with a nice concept, but I found most of the author's directions vague or hard to follow. Great example: on page 34 "a great view of Cape Falcon can be found from an unmarked pullout on Highway 101". How do you expect me to find that? We found the Cape Falcon trail, but thanks only to a road sign never mentioned in the book. That trail was swarming with hikers, contrary to the book. And we saw no sign of Three Arch Rocks from Oceanside beach farther south (page 39). But do stop at Tillamook Cheese Factory for their fabulous ice cream!
For a future edition, please consider a) GPS coordinates or milepost numbers if there's no street address, b) concise verbal directions with zoomed-in maps or diagrams of the areas described, c) limiting text to just a short list of a site's features to look for, when to go, e.g., early morning, sunset, high or low tide. d) and bear in mind digital odometers on newer cars readout only in whole numbers, no tenths of a mile. I can't tell when I've driven 1.7 miles.
