Tape the edge of the Ella Bella roll to the wall, and pull desired length from roll. (Optional, trim off excess on the bottom).
Use a DIY backdrop stand, like this one made from PVC pipe. Stick the horizontal bar at the top of the stand through the Ella Bella roll. Pull desired length from roll.

This item arrived at my home in a very large box much too large for the small wrapping paper sized roll inside. However, I don't think this is what caused the nasty crease down the middle several other reviewers have noted (which mind had.) Perhaps these were stacked and crushed at an Amazon wearhouse? It's a shame because, for larger images and portraits this isn't practical. It would never lay flat with the damage/crease, therefor, it wouldn't be as flawless a visual effect for close or sharp photographing.
So, what should you expect? Well, probably a dented roll, sad to say. Outside of that, this is a very convenient roll to travel will as it is so lightweight. It has held up great with the clips on my backdrop rig with no tears or holes over the past month. I keep expecting a cat to go flying through it but so good so far. And, even then there's plenty of room to pull it down to a fresh point of view. Does it work for my needs? Yes. I've gotten several compliments on it and feel it is an excellent addition to any home or beginner photographer's arsenal.
Hopefully my photos help anyone on the fence :)
UPDATE: It's been over 6 months and I am still using the same roll. I have a cat int he house, so I've had to roll to 'fresher' background from time to time, but I still have some length left. It really holds up well if you take care of it. I also wanted to add several friends have invested in this after seeing it in my studio space, and they are just as happy with the buy.
The first thing I noticed was that the roll was crushed. Since it doesn't come on a cardboard tube like wrapping paper, it was apparently easily crushed.
The damage to the paper makes it unusable. This is the quality of dollar store wrapping paper but at least at the dollar store you can choose your roll to make sure it isn't bent and crushed.
I took photos of it still in the plastic wrap, approximately two minutes after my doorbell rang signifying a delivery.
When I took it out of the plastic to see how far the damage went through the roll I saw it went through the whole roll.
I am highly disappointed. While this wasn't ridiculously expensive, it wasn't only a couple dollars.
Had I know I'd received an unusable roll that is the quality of cheap wrapping paper I would have saved myself the trouble and additional money and just went to the store and purchased inexpensive wrapping paper.
I almost bought the four pack but am extremely glad I didn't.
The pictures do not do the damage justice. Unfortunately it is extremely dark outside, raining, and with the kitchen lighting and cell phone, it doesn't capture the depth of the damage, wrinkles and bent paper. It isn't worth the time to set it up on my backdrop stand, get out my studio lighting, and set it up to truly show the damage.
