the PM&R Board Review fit the niche between taking a review course (not comprehensive enough) and reading a textbook on PM&R (too unwieldy).
some have remarked on the outline format of this text. yes, there are many sections where the essential points are bulleted out, but this is exactly what i was looking for. there was just enough exposition to clarify certain points (maybe too much for pulmonary and cardiac rehab). when i wanted more information and better understanding, i supplemented this text by using the internet and my standard textbooks--but i didn't have to do this often.
the 'pearls'--specific topics that are particularly useful for boards--were clearly marked with a book icon. i made sure i studied these well and I was rewarded handsomely. several questions on the recert exam seemed to reference these pearls exactly. in every instance when this happened, i grew more grateful that i purchased this book.
obviously, everyone has their own study methods, but i prefer a text that presents the most important points in an easy to read fashion but provides enough information to allow for a reasonable understanding of the concepts. this book accomplishes this rather well.
we'll see if i pass, but this Board Review made me more confident that i had a basic grasp of PM&R fundamentals.
if i do pass, i will recommend this book without reservation to all my colleagues. yes, even at its current price. it is well worth it.

i just got my board recertification results. i passed with flying colors, well above the mean. and all i studied was this review book! i just read this cover to cover and reviewed important topics.
i agree that it's not a comprehensive text, but as a board review it is excellent.
i'm a pain management pm&r physician, and haven't done any neurorehabilitation, pediatrics, amputee, orthotics/prosthetics, rheumatologic disorders for years. but this book got me through quite handily.
if you want a concise overview and don't want to waste hundreds of dollars (even thousands) and many hours on review courses, then this is the book to get.
This book is excellent for the current test given in your local testing center. I went through this book once, filled up a large spiral notebook, and went through that a few times. I saw most of the questions just pop out of those notes.
If you only have a small-screen kindle, either upgrade or get the paper copy, as you will not be able to see some of the tables even with a magnifying glass.
