This book was a great way to first jump into the complexity of physics. The beginning chapters are as follows:
1.Physics, the Fundamental Science (Intro)
2.Describing Motion
3.Falling Objects and Projectile Motion
4.Newton's Laws: Explaining Motion
5.Circular Motion, the Planets, and Gravity
6.Energy and Oscillations
7.Momentum and Impulse
8.Rotational Motion of Solid Objects
9.The Behavior of Fluids
10.Temperature and Heat

Through my class which required this text, I noticed a few errors in the Exercise sections for each chapter. Some were written incorrectly and there were even wrong answers listed in the Answers section of the book. While there are only a few, the price a student pays for this book doesn't justify much error in the text itself.

Aside from that, however, the book was a great utility in learning physics.

I'm currently in a level 100 physics class which required the newest edition of this book. I went ahead and bought the older edition for obvious reasons($$$). The older edition has worked fine for this class, although they updated the homework questions in the newer edition so not all of the problems are in the older edition. So far I have only needed to copy down a few of the newer questions from the new edition which I was able to do during the teacher's office hours. So, if you want to save some loot, the older edition should get you by just fine.

I had to purchase this textbook for an introductory physics course, and upon reading the reviews and reactions as well as reading the text itself, I can understand some of the reviews that some people posted negative comments about the book. While taking the reviews into account, I started reading the book. The book does take a more ambiguous and generalized approach to explaining the ideas presented. The book does seem to digress into perhaps over-thought examples to maintain the reader's attention. In my personal experience, this is one of the courses that provide the foundation on which my understanding in physics is built, in that this is not the only physics course I will take. This book does provide an overall concept to physics and uses minimal mathematics as possible so as to avoid losing the reader in the equations. In my opinion, I think that this is a solid book for an introduction to physics that has a main audience of those who did not have a physics course that was mathematically comprehensive and explicit. While this is a perspective from a mere undergraduate student, I feel that this book can help gain a strong footing in one of the most formidable and fundamental sciences.

Purchase carefully. This textbook comes in United States version and international version so double check your selection before you push that final button. The textbook itself is really quite interesting - with many of everyday applications of the material (physics).

This book is clear and concise and most of the material can be understood by most non physics major. Although the subject matter can be boring. The math formulas are clear and can be understood which is a plus but the reading a bore. Overall, a good book.

this book is poorly written with useless analogies and explanations that are often more confusing than the topic. If I hadn't had constant access to the Kahn Academy videos I would have given up. I can't believe instructors use this book, I am seriously disappointed in both the purchase and the author. I am actually taking time away from my homework to write this because the chapter on heat engines is so totally useless. Tell your instructor to use another book.

This book was required for an online class and it was one of the better texts I have had. It does a decent job of giving you the basics and explaining them clearly. Would recommend for a beginner in physics.
