Phoebe has been through a terrible ordeal and the way the author writes about the aftermath feels very realistic. She doesn’t have that quick fix or a blink of the eye everything is coming up rainbows. Also, it is not just Phoebe that has to deal with this aftermath, but her family along with Angel and Beau, too. They are going through issues, too. The emotions in this book will have you going on many highs and lows as the writing has you experiencing what these characters are experiencing, making them real. How Phoebe has survived what she has gone through is a miracle in itself and to know the love and support she has while trying to learn to adjust to what is now her new normal shows us that there is hope that anything is possible.
The author has a way with her writing that will draw you in from the start to the end. She leaves the reader wanting more without a disappointing ending. The author uses everything so don't miss even the smallest detail it may not seem important at the time, but you discover later it is. I can’t wait to read more from this skilled author.
I loved the realistic way Michelle Irwin portrayed Phoebe's struggles. She made progress and had relapses. There was no linear improvement that just kept building. There was no single miracle breakthrough. She was getting counseling. Her family, Beau, and Angel learned techniques to help her feel safe and loved. In true Angel form, Angel told Phoebe some hard truths that she needed to hear.
Physis is overall a story of hope and love. About finding the light at the end of a long, dark, frightening tunnel. Of the resilience of the human spirit. Of the importance of unwavering love and support. Of putting the emotional needs of someone you love above your own needs.
I can't say enough about how awesome Physis is. It will take you through the gamut of emotions but it will leave you feeling hopeful for the future. It is definitely a must-read book along with the rest of the books in the Phoebe Reede series. Grab the entire series. You will fall in love with Michelle Irwin's story.
Everything in Phoebe's life is a trigger: Beau, being touched, her parents' relationship, and especially her mother's pregnancy and the birth of her youngest sibling. This is an emotional read and the reader learns a lot about her time in captivity. The emotions are raw and difficult to process, not only for Phoebe but also the reader. The writing is beautifully emotional and draws the reader into the story and the struggles of the characters. I am anxious to read where this series goes from here, because Beau and Phoebe both deserve their HEA.
Finding a new normal is never as easy as it seems.
Phoebe Reede has suffered unimaginable tortures at the hands of her captors. Now home and safe, she can’t let go of the things that happened to her. No amount of therapy or coaxing by her parents can draw her from her shell.
How can she learn to live again, when everything she loved about herself is gone?
