About Pia Lord
Pia Lord (1965-) was born in Baltimore, MD, and grew up in Severna Park, MD. She traveled to Annecy, France living there as a Rotary International Exchange Student. She holds a B.A. in Economics from Barnard College, Columbia University, a B.M. in Music Education from William Paterson University and an M.S. in Space Science from American Public University. For 15 years she taught piano and voice through her own studio in New Jersey.
Pia is an open water swimmer and paddler. She has swum the coastlines of Mallorca, Spain and Tenerife, Canary Islands. She swam the 4.4 mile Great Chesapeake Bay Swim June 12, 2016 and the 5k at Wellington Lake, Sedalia, Colorado ( 8,000 ft elevation) in July 2016. She also swam the 8 mile Alligator Lighthouse swim in Islamorada, Florida Keys and the 7 miles around Lido Key Sarasota. She has accomplished the Chattajax 32 mile paddle from St. Augustine to Vilano Beach, Florida and paddle 3 times around Key West. In June 2021, she swam 12 miles in the Swim Around Key West, Florida.
In 2006, she founded The Pia Lord Company, a travel adventure publishing company and has written books for children and adults on various topics including on geology, music, space science, sports(swimming and skiing),science fiction, travel and poetry. She lives with her husband and son on an island on the Space Coast Florida.
