Kits are available if you are adventurous, and the book is a great guide. Watch some youtube videos so you have a visual as well. Add this to your piano bench while they are still available!
-so much information
If you have any questions about the piano, buy this book.
We started off by purchasing a cheap set of tuning tools (it was $15 or so?) from Amazon and checking this book out at the library. It took him a lot of thought, study and trial and error, but he got it done and did a great job. He also was able to do the needed repairs. Each time after that whenever he needed to tune the piano again we'd check it out again for a refresher. Finally we just purchased the book used and do not regret it.
It's a great learning tool for those who are serious about learning how to tune, service and repair pianos.
Because it was so easy, I plan on tuning the piano myself with the help of this book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to tackle minor repairs to their piano. It does has a section about total piano restoration for the more adventurous do-it yourself-er.
I have read and reread it and reread it many times. As a result
I was able to repair my piano and save at least $700 in repair costs
By a piano tech.
The author did a most remarkable job of communicating every detail.
Please understand that without mechanical aptitude to a high degree a person
would not be wise to tackle any major piano repair. In my case I had 16 sluggish keys
due to hinge and pin clearances at the whippen and hammer butt.
I was lucky because no corrosion has occurred. Repair was very labor intensive and required
