I’m halfway thru the book and while I think Six is strong, I think she’s also callous and mean. Two things I don’t care for. I liked that she wanted to give him a taste of his own medicine, (and it was great starting out), but it went on way too long. It’s like the authors didn’t have any other ideas, so they padded the story with just this aspect so they could continue to charge the usual exorbitant amount for the book.
Sean started out cocky and arrogant, but then immediately started questioning his amorous abilities, (in spite of the hundreds of other girls in his past), just because of what she did and said? That didn’t make any sense. Men like that assume it’s the other person’s problem.) Then after their final goodbyes, when he was supposedly in love with her, her decided he was going to F another woman to get over her. (Didn’t happen, but that’s because someone else stopped him.) He just gave up on her and didn’t even care enough to try to tell her how he felt. That’s just bs. The men in these stories are supposed to be better than that.
The humor in this story is minuscule, which I really don’t like because the humor is what drew me to the series to begin with. And again it’s like they've run out of ideas. Either that or they’ve run out of funny. (The only really good spot had to do with Georgia and Kline.) If this story continues to be bad I may have to downgrade my rating.
I made myself finish, but it didn’t get any better. And yes I did downgrade my rating. When a new book comes out I seem to only remember loving the first ones and forgetting the later ones were garbage. I really need to remember to stop buying them because they are certainly not worth the cost.
Issues I had:
They were supposed to be mature adults. Why didn’t they communicate?
If this was mentioned I missed it. Why was she called such an odd name like Six? Was it her name or a nickname? Or was she just called that so the authors had a name to match the title? This may have just been an issue for me and not anyone else.
After they broke up she made a big deal about the pictures she saw of him with the pop star, then constantly thought about him being with other women which made her depressed. She somehow lost the strength she’d had all along and decided to resort to booze, which is always the answer. (Cue eye roll) The pictures and her concerns were never discussed or explained with Sean, they all just magically disappeared.
After the final game, everyone else that she was involved with earlier dropped from the story. The team, his sister texting her all the time, etc. were all a big part of the whole thing, then they just disappeared.
Early on a big deal was made out of the cameraman’s girlfriend so I kept expecting her to show up and do something bad. It, like some other things, was just dropped. Why even mention her to begin with?
The game itself was almost like an afterthought, written so he could grandstand. It didn’t fit the with the other games that were played.
They were together only three months and he proposed? When thru all the previous years he was adamant about getting certain things done first with any relationships coming in last? Did he even meet her parents? That made absolutely no sense. Especially when a big chunk of that time was spent with her being mean to him. And why is she willing to jump into this? When they split he certainly didn’t fight for her, and seemed pretty willing to move on so he could forget her. What’s he going to do the next time they have a problem? He is obviously not to be trusted, so what the heck?
I unfortunately bought this one and the following one at the same time, so I have one more to wade thru. After that, though, I’m done with these authors. These stories are no longer entertaining. I’m also done with their newsletter, which has morphed from funny to dumb as well. I’m sad to see what this series has come to since it started out so strong. This author pairing started out promising, but has slowly reduced to drivel. I think they need to consider going their separate ways and either work alone or with someone new. Either that or have someone sit in their sessions and get a better editor; people who won’t pander and will actually tell them when something stinks. Where these authors used to play well off of each other to get good stuff, they’re now doing just the opposite. It’s just sad.
It was the dreaded 5-minute conversation that would have shortened this story a lot. So, to avoid that, this team of authors dragged out what could have been resolved quickly if Six and Sean had just talked.
That was a big problem for me. I'm not sure if I'll give the next one in the series a go.
I chuckled throughout this book and would definitely recommend it. Loved seeing Georgia, Kline, Wes, Cassie and Thatcher pop up in this book. Always adds a little more humor to situations.
If you love reading about a super HOT COCKY football player, and the one who succeeds in scoring this HOTTIE then hit the button to buy this baby. I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book but I still bought the book. It was that good!
I just can’t get over Max Monroe’s writing style. They have got to be one of my favorite one-click authors. I will read just about anything they write. It’s engaging and relevant for readers.
And to be perfectly honest, you never know what might happen next.. which is why you couldn’t tear me away from Pick Six. I loved that Six was a video blogger. Unconventional, sure? But it also reminded me of why I follow Liza (which if you don’t know her then look it up, seriously).. anyways, video bloggers and youtubers are here to stay.. so why not write about them! I’m here for it MM. Just saying..
I loved that Ri-ri made an appearance and we got to go to one of the championship games. I’ve got to tell you.. the end.. Sean.. picking Six.. I mean come on! That’s gold!!! Seriously!
Give me another Max Monroe book any day. I’m more than ready!

Sean does not quite understand why Six is so ‘indifferent’ to him (spoiler alerts, she’s not). It did bring Sean down a peg or two. This book brought two very different people together in such a way which is funny, endearing, romantic and swoon worthy. I can’t quite recommend this story highly enough. Sean is a character you just want to claim for yourself and Six is your new sassy girlfriend. Their interactions, banter and camaraderie was definitely worth the read.
Go and pick this book up!
Pick Six is a return to the snort sputter, coffee spraying, "did they just...of course they did" comedic romance efforts of Max and Monroe (who have recently delved into darker waters with their Stone Cold Fox trilogy - also worth a look).
It has some visits from some old faves, hilarious scenes involving overusage of words I don't think Amazon likes me to use in reviews (the ninja scene, you all get me), detailed descriptions of knees and a little angst (but not too much).
From the outset, Six had my heart; Cassie's little brother had to work for it and although he's too cocky (yes, I did) to make it as my new book boyfriend, he is refreshingly upfront about his flaws and mistakes. I would have liked a little more character growth, as per the first Mavericks book, but otherwise, a solid effort from the ladies, who once again managed to get twisted song lyrics stuck in my head.
I was hooked right from the get go. Six had her very own #cockygate right at the beginning of this book, and it made me laugh so hard.
Six is the bomb1 I want to be her so much. She is funny, feisty, all that and a bag of chips!
I love how she knocks Sean down a peg or two, however I also love how he takes it all on board and goes after what he wants... Six.
I loved getting more of the Mavericks boys, especially QB! I freaking love him and Cat.
And #OhMyThatch he makes an appearance or two!
I love the push/pull between our lovelies, but ugh Six! Girl, enough with the I want him/I don't want him bizzo! I will take him off your hands in a heartbeat.
