I’d like to start with my star rating. I gave this book 3 and ½ stars and with that I would like to point out that this is a debut novel for brand new authors. This was a book of quality and attention to detail and I believe as these girls keep going they will get many 5 stars in the future.
Picking up the Pieces was a story of friendship, family, loyalty, sacrifice, and new beginnings. Sawyer Jameson is a southern girl with a big smile and dirty boots. She’s not afraid of a little hard work and she does what is right by the people in her life.
Sawyer has a best friend named Cheyenne. These girls grew up together and are as thick as thieves. The friendship between these girls in the story is amazing. They are like night and day in their personalities but opposites attract and make for great girls nights to read about. They balance each other out and Chey is one fierce best friend you wouldn’t want to mess with.
Then there is Preston, the man looking for a place in Sawyer’s heart. He is a mess of sexy contradictions; tattooed but a pretty boy, city but country, open yet a mystery. But best of all he is good to Sawyer, craves her, and doesn’t hold her past against her.
Now we have Austin… I’ve been told I am a bit of an ice queen when it comes to certain things and Austin’s antics fall under categories hard for me to forgive. I see other readers forgive and hold a soft spot for characters that I just hold a grudge for. It’s nothing new for me. I cursed while reading while I saw the building of forgiveness for Austin during my reading. These authors did a pretty good job of almost getting me to forgive him.
The ending has a little bit of a tearjerker element but rest assured there is a HEA ending. Over all reading this book was a pleasant experience and I look forward to continuing on with the series and see how these authors mature and develop. I have a feeling we can expect good things from them. My one recommendation is… that for my tastes it was a little PG in the amount of sex we get and I think these girls should add some extra steam in the novels to come!
I would definitely read more of their books.
I simply have no words to describe the emotions this story has me feeling. I highly recommend this book to everyone, whether young, middle aged , or old. This book will touch your very heart.
