Top Customer Reviews
But it was all a lie. This chair is a great idea, and if you weigh less than 100 lbs you're probably going to be ok. Anything beyond that and you're going to have a bad time.
First off. The chair looks great. Upon opening it I noticed that one arm rest was higher than the other. Cool - they are adjustable. Thats neat. So while adjusting, I then noticed that one wasn't attached at the hand end of said arm rest. Not cool. It's held in by a Phillips head screw thru a hole in the fabric, and the hole is pretty much the same size as the screw head. Brilliant. So now I have a chair with one and a half arm rests. Lucky me.
Then I sat down in the chair. Among the first things I noticed was that there was really no way to sit "properly" in an "upright" position. Which is awesome if you're just reclining all the time. But try to pull up to a table and enjoy a steak or some nice Texas chili, and again.. bad time. The chair is also incredibly low to the ground, I felt like a kid again sneaking in to the big peoples table at thanksgiving.
The next best part - that incredibly low ground height isnt a constant - it keeps changing! And by changing, I mean decreasing! As our 3 day camp weekend went on, my lap went from kinda flat but sorta tipped to more or less pointing at the tree tops.
Mainly this is due to an incredibly dumb plastic part that sits in the front corners of the seat portion. These plastic things are riveted to the front diagonal braces, and attached to the side diagonal braces which allow them to slide while closing and adjusting the chair. The seat then sits on top of this piece of art. Or at least, it did at first. Then it gets wedged into the gap in between the part and the frame, and then bends the plastic so the gap gets wider and wider. Hence the ever decreasing seat height.
Then, for an added bit of adventure, the aforementioned rivet pulled thru the plastic piece. This was fun because it happened at night and almost toppled me into a campfire. Oh would that have made for an interesting review.
So after 3 days, this chair is unusable. And I cannot recommend staying away from it enough. I feel kinda bad, as my brother in law purchased the same chair after seeing mine the first night. I think he can still cancel his order tho... I hope so.
Last bit of insult - the night the rivet popped out was the last night of my "30 day return window" which I was completely unaware of. Boy was I a happy camper when I got home, logged in to return it and - oh my, I cant. Serves me right, I suppose, by ordering something well enough in advance of a trip instead of last minute. From now on, I'm ordering everything 3 days before I go. I have Prime and I might as well take advantage of it so things like this dont happen again.
*puts my nose two inches from computer screen to look as earnest as possible*
SEND. IT. BACK. TO. US. Right now. As soon as you read this, and I really hope it's ASAP. This chair needs to be sent back to our Product Development, where they can inspect it and try to figure out what went south. We need to exchange it for the chair that *has* received all of the positive feedback.
That positive feedback exists for a reason - we're darn proud of our chairs, and we take it personally when a factory defect occurs. That's why Picnic Time has a comprehensive lifetime warranty, so that our customers can trust our products. Bad chair!!!!
Our toll-free Customer Service # is 888-742-6429, and you'll want to press #5 to speak to our Warranties/Returns Department. They're available from 7:15am - 4:00pm PST M-F. We'll get it exchanged for you as soon as possible.
Thank you for the review and for letting us know that it was defective - and on behalf of Picnic Time, I want to apologize for your receiving a defective chair, and for all of the problems that it caused on your camping trip.
All the best,
Official Customer Guru, Picnic Time
Too often (for me anyway) the "typical" chair of this type is uncomfortable, with the back too straight which allows no room for "lounging" or leaning back. More expensive chairs seem to just add padding to the same un-ergonomic structure or throw a few canvas bags (called "storage")...and charge $50+ more for the privilege.
This chair however is anything but that type of product. Padded everywhere, yes, but more importantly the back reclines by several degrees and allows a very comfortable (and more natural in my opinion). Imagine my surprise when I unpacked it in the living room and gave it a try (figuring I'd be returning it immediately), but instead sat the rest of the night watching TV in the thing. The sight was probably slightly ludicrous, but I didn't care.
To mention what someone previously stated, the Blue & White colors are not nearly as bright as the picture. The blue is Navy and the white actually has a slight grey-ish tint to it. As I'm a PSU grad, this suits me fine.
Also, just to give fair warning of the only thing I think someone could find wrong with it, this chair is bigger than the typical collapsible chair of its type. Its not much heavier (though admittedly it is noticeable) than the typical collapsible chair, but it is much bulkier.
Thanks again and stay comfortable!
I DO take care of it. I don't leave it out when it's raining, I don't leave it out overnight because of the dampness. I don't spill things on it (very much) and I don't set it on muddy or uneven ground. I would say that I store it properly, except I've never stored it. The bag it came in hangs in the closet. The chair is in use all year round.
And because I love it so much, I'm going to buy another one. If they still make them like they did back in 2012, I'll be a very happy person.
