Do you know how hard it is to find a plain glass pie plate in the store? In our area - impossible. Somehow I lost my pie plate, and the search began. Metal plates were everywhere, but in glass, I could only find fancy ones with fluted edges and big handles. (Clumsy and hard to work with!) Part of the problem is the email rumor that's gone around telling people to get rid of their glass bakeware because it "explodes." That's mostly bunk by the way; check out Snopes. Finally I found these regular old-fashioned glass pie plates at a very good price, and I'm just as happy as when I had my old reliable. It's a plain easy-to-use plate with enough depth to get all the filling in without a boil-over, and pie is all about thin crust and thick filling as far as I'm concerned. As always, Anchor Hocking cleans up in a flash, ready to go again. The uniformity of thickness makes a uniformly baked pie. The simplicity of design makes trimming and crimping the crust easy. In short, these are the same great plates they've always been, and the important part is, they can turn out pies like grandma used to make. Now if only I were that good!

These are very similar to the everlasting ones my mom had,back in the 1960's. It's extremely rare to find kitchen products enshrined in memory, made today with the quality of 50 years ago.

I use my pie plates for much, much more than making pies. They are the perfect size, shape and material to reheat leftovers for one or two people and work in both the microwave and oven. They work for breading meats. They hold stuff when doing prep. They are easy to clean up and seemingly indestructible. I have 4 now and consider them a kitchen must have.

Oh yeah, they do also make great pies!

Price is good and dishes have worked fine the first time. I understand from my reading that these may not be quite as heat resistant as Pyrex, but I don't use them often and I'm always careful with hot pots, pans and dishes.
