"Pig in a Pen" is my adaptations of six old blues songs, a new rock tune, two traditional tunes, and "The Loveliest Song," part of the Song of Solomon set to music.

Dean Rathje: voices, guitar, slide guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, piano, bass.

"Big Road Blues" is adapted from the singing and playing of early 20th century Mississippi blues artist Tommy Johnson (1896-1956). "Dreamin' " is an original blues-rock tune. I learned "Last Kind Word" from Geeshie Wiley, who recorded a few songs with Paramount in 1930. "Pig in a Pen" is traditional. "Farewell to You Baby" is from the work of blues mandolinist Carl Martin (1906-1979). "Blues Medley" derives from the work of Henry Thomas (1874-1950s?), a pre-WWII country blues singer from Texas. "Spoonful" exists in many versions; I adapted this version from the work of Charley Jordan (1890-1954), a St. Louis blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Jordan is also my source for "Screamin' and Hollerin' the Blues." "Left My Gal in the Mountains" may have been written by early country music artist Carson Robison (1890-1957). "The Loveliest Song" is my musical adaptation of a portion of the biblical Song of Solomon.
